An Australian shopper couldn’t believe her luck when she scored a huge shopping deal at a bargain price – and the food will last her for weeks.

The Melbourne shopper was shocked when she was able to buy four kilos of meat, a large quantity of vegetables and several basic necessities for just $62.59.

She went to Preston Market and Aldi, but initially worried she wouldn’t be able to make ends meet until her next payday.

“I didn’t have my last $200 yet [for the next 10 days] after my savings were wiped out by two unexpected expenses,” she shared on Reddit.

“The cost of living is becoming very tough.”

An Australian shopper couldn’t believe her luck when she scored a huge shopping deal for $62

However, she hit the supermarket jackpot.

She was able to buy 1 kg of chicken drummettes, 1 kg of chicken wings, 1 kg of minced pork and 1 kg of minced beef.

The woman also scored eggs, carrots, 5kg of potatoes, 2kg of onions, sweet potato, celery, cabbage, frozen spinach, tinned tomatoes and spring onions – along with fruit such as apples and bananas.

She also stocked up on tomato sauce, kewpie mayo, pasta, bread, tuna, coconut milk and toilet paper.

“This store will focus on making bulk curry, okonomiyaki, pork noodles and pasta dishes that will last you a while,” she said.

Hundreds of other Australians cheered her catch and revealed their own changing habits.

“I’ve been going to Queen Victoria Market for a few months now and looking for sustainable alternatives for our everyday items (tissues, cleaning products, etc) to avoid ever having to go back to Coles,” one person said.

‘Easily save €100-200 per week, eat much more fresh and unprocessed food and almost no unhealthy snacks. Something we should have done much sooner,” she added.

Another wrote: ‘That’s a good yield for a pretty good price in these times, and very healthy food. On the right track.’

“Absolutely loving this new Ilia Beauty Complexion Stick,” she wrote in an Instagram Story.

The brand’s $48 Skin Rewind Complexion Stick contains skin care ingredients that provide anti-aging benefits while working like makeup to conceal and even out skin tone.

Ilia Beauty, a brand beloved by celebrities like Paulina Porizkova and Riley Keough, dropped the makeup-skincare hybrid earlier this month.

The complexion stick has buildable medium coverage and can be used with a light hand for a sleek look or layered for a flawless, natural matte finish.

Key skincare ingredients, such as ceramides, peptides and avocado oil, worked over time to help reduce wrinkles.

The brand says the complexion stick lasts up to 12 hours without moving as you turn back the clock on your skin.

The stick received hundreds of five-star reviews from customers who were satisfied with its makeup and skincare functionalities.

“I’ve been using this complexion stick for two weeks now and love the weightless feeling and the way it evens out my skin tone,” wrote one satisfied customer.

Toby Carvery bills itself as the ‘home of the roast’ – where Sunday roasts are done ‘properly’.

But just how ‘properly’ is that? And how does the chain’s low-cost offering compare to a fine-dining version of the classic Brit favourite?

I endeavoured to find out, heading to a Toby Carvery in Worthing, West Sussex, for a three-meat roast costing the princely sum of £13.99, then trying the Sunday roast at London’s only Michelin-starred pub, Fulham’s renowned Harwood Arms, where a set three courses sets you back £70 plus tip.

What happens when the humble Sunday roast gets the Michelin-star treatment? Can it possibly be worth paying high-end prices for when you can get essentially the same dish with change back from £20? Read on to find out…

TOBY CARVERY – THE ‘HOME OF THE ROAST’ – WORTHING

Katrina Conaglen tried out the Sunday Roast at Worthing’s Toby Carvery, which charges £13.99 for a three-meat carvery. Wondering how elevated a roast could possible get, she then spent five times as much to try the feted Sunday roast at Fulham’s Harwood Arms, the only Michelin-starred pub in London

Katrina says: ‘I associate canteen-style buffets with the slop they served in the Mess Tent on M*A*S*H, so I fretted a little’

It was a filthy February day when I headed to the Home of the Roast in Worthing. The very bones of me were cold – ideal circumstances for a bolstering feast.

It was my first-ever Toby Carvery visit, but many friends I respect were, if not evangelical, certainly warmly affectionate about Toby’s Sunday roasts.

It was time to put this British institution through its paces.

In the interest of journalistic rigour, I had intended to order a ‘starter’ of pigs in blankets. But as soon as I mentioned I planned on the carvery, my waiter informed me that the ‘carvery deck’ was around the corner and to queue there for my serving. As a carvery naïf, I did as I was told.

My dining companion ordered mac ‘n’ cheese, which was delivered and demolished by the time I returned with my laden plate. (They had schlepped out in a tempest to the restaurant with me, so I didn’t admonish them. Also, they were 10 years old.)

When I made it through the winding queue to the ‘deck’ I was told to choose three meats. Wanting to make it to pudding, I limited myself to slow-cooked beef and pork loin. I associate canteen-style buffets with the slop they served in the mess tent on M*A*S*H, so I fretted a little.

Katrina opted for slow-cooked beef and pork loin for her choice of meats. She was impressed with the beef, wondering 'how they'd managed to keep a soft, yielding texture for meat now sunbathing under a heat lamp'

According to Katrina, the Yorkies ‘were the size of a sombrero’ and an admirable effort

I needn’t have: The beef was tender. I slathered it in English mustard and wondered how they’d managed to keep a soft, yielding texture for meat sunbathing under a heat lamp. A form of wizardry.

The pork loin, alas, erred towards what the Scots evocatively call ‘chugh’ – leathery meat. I had forgotten the apple sauce in the tumult of the ‘carvery deck’ – a fatal error. An undignified end for the poor pig.

The roasties had the damp kiss of the microwave, but their interior had the critical ‘smoosh’ factor one needs from a Sabbath spud. Yorkies were the size of a sombrero. Though greasier than ideal, I was impressed – crispy exterior, pancake-y interior, substantive but not stodgy. Admirable.

For her pudding, Katrina opted for apple and blackberry crumble, served with soft serve ice cream. She wanted 'to warm [her] insides as ballast against the squall outdoors'

Katrina, with dessert – warm stewed fruit crowned with hot golden rubble

Dessert was apple and blackberry crumble. I wanted warm stewed fruit crowned with hot golden rubble, to warm my insides as ballast against the squall outside. And so it proved – a school dinner favourite, done perfectly well.

Now, a moan. There’s a Monty Python sketch in which a waiter, distraught his customer has been given a dirty fork, goes into increasing paroxysms of horror at letting the diner down. Reader, that waiter would spontaneously combust if he saw the glassware at Toby Carvery. I’m not Lady Muck, but I do prefer a clean tumbler.

Verdict: Crucially, Toby’s Carvery is not attempting a swizz – £13.99 for a mountain of well-prepared meat, endless veg, and as many roasties as you can pile on your plate. The ambience may be lacking – it’s dining without flair – but if you’re after a good feed, you’re quids in.

PROS: Flavoursome meat, comforting food, mountainous puddings, value for money.

CONS: All the atmosphere of an airport lounge, queueing for food, dirty glassware.

Rating out of five: ***

Cost: £13.99 for three-meat carvery, with all the trimmings, £6.49 for a kid’s meal / £9.98 for two desserts / £5 gratuity.

Total cost for food: £35.46.

If you’ve swerved Michelin-star establishments in your time for fear of tedious poncery, The Harwood Arms will not frighten you.

Definitely ‘gastropub’ in feel, thoughtful touches suggest a studied casualness – scuffed, leather-bound chairs, antique pine tables. There is a hint of a hunting lodge theme that stops short of going full, fusty Balmoral.

That’s reflected in the menu, which is heavily game-orientated, and offers gently remixed versions of time-honoured British standbys. We’re not talking arty ‘deconstructions’ or weird-for-the-sake-of-weird innovation, just slightly more creative takes on dishes that – well, you can order at Toby Carvery.

Ok, not my first course, in fairness. A starter of grilled red deer tongue, strafed with drops of quince paste and beetroot doesn’t scream ‘British comfort food.’

But oh, let me tell you what a time I had eating it. Meat perfectly seared on the outside, with a superlatively yielding texture inside. Smokey, whisper-soft meat was cut through with the sweetness of the quince and beetroot. At the risk of sounding salacious, of all the tongue I’ve had in my time, I didn’t expect a deer’s to enter the top ten.

Then, to the main event – Iberian Pork with Jowl, with apple sauce, Yorkie, roasties, broccoli and carrot. Toby Carvery doesn’t tell you what farm its meat comes from, but The Harwood Arms does – and I have every reason to suspect my pig had a gorgeous life back at Whitley Manor, judging by how succulent yet lean it tasted. Ribbons of whisper-pink pork dissolved in my mouth.

The Harwood Arms main: Iberian Pork with Jowl, with apple sauce, Yorkie, roasties, broccoli and carrot. The pork is sourced from Whitley Manor farm. Katrina said: 'I have every reason to suspect my pig had a gorgeous life back on Whitley Manor, judging by how succulent yet lean it tasted'

As to the Yorkie? It was pretty good. Nothing rapturous. Yorkies are never the most flavoursome part of the roast, but it was just what you needed from a side dish that is essentially a carrier for other flavours, designed to complement one another.

This is where the dish triumphed. Every component existed in symphonic accord with the other – the apple sauce made the pork sing, and the roasties acted as a carbohydrate conductor that brought the whole mouthful together.

This was the platonic ideal of roasts. Can a roast dinner be elevated? You betcha.

I did not particularly need nor want dessert, but, one-woman Woodward and Bernstein that I am, I ate it to bring you the culinary scoop. Apple parfait with hazelnut and shortbread.

Cherub-fat orbs of fresh apple cream, cut through with delicate hazelnut ice cream and biscuit that snapped so crisply it could moonlight as a twig. ‘This is what angels eat for breakfast,’ I moaned. I had found a pudding so delectable it would be worth suffering the fate the kids in Willy Wonka endure for stealing sweets.

Reader – the meal was plentiful. I am truthful when I say I had to let my belt out two notches.

Which is my only major complaint about Harwood. You have to have three courses on a Sunday, and you have to share the roast between two. Both caveats seem unreasonable – a roast is a hefty meal, and I loathe being overfull. Also, why should you have to have a companion with you to enjoy a handsome meal just because it’s the Lord’s Day?

It’s a silly prejudice, in my eyes. I’m sure there’s a justification related to covers and overheads, but it sits poorly with me.

Verdict: When you pay over the odds for a meal, the hope is, as much as anything, you’re paying for an experience. Toby Carvery is food as background noise – an old sitcom episode you put on for comfort but also to talk over.

At The Harwood Arms, food is the main event. The pub satiates hunger, yes, but more than that, they create gorgeous memories. I couldn’t afford to eat like this with any regularity, but if your pound stretches to it, it’s worth the splurge.

PROS: Spectacularly delicious food, laidback atmosphere, pudding of celestial quality

CONS: Seems churlish to insist on three courses, and having to dine with a guest, at these prices

Rating out of five: ****

Cost: £140 for three-course set menu for two / £20 gratuity.

Total cost for food: £160.

An anonymous shopper was left stunned while browsing the aisles in their local Asda to see a huge range of Herbal Essences hair care items had been cut off.

With prices starting from 67 cents each, the shopper took to social media to warn others.

Post on Extreme Coupons and Bargains UKa private Facebook group with a whopping 2.4 million members, the shopper shared a photo of their huge haul, explaining: “Asda, clearance section, tagged at £2.50 each but scanned with self-scan.”

The customer then claimed they took four bottles of the Herbal Essences aloe and bamboo shampoo, as well as two of the aloe and mango conditioners, for just £1.80 each.

Not only this, but the customer also managed to get their hands on three of the manuka honey shampoos and six of the coconut milk shampoos, for £1.25 each.

And if that wasn’t enough, the Asda shopper also stole three argan oil terms, for just 67p each.

In total, the customer picked up 18 bottles of hair care products, which cost a total of £45.

However, the proceeds were only €24.60, saving this shopper a total of €20.94.

The beauty fan later wrote: “I believe it’s mainly the Vegan range [that is reduced].”

But it turns out that the Herbal Essences Argan Oil hair conditioner, which this customer bought for just 67 cents, is a huge fan favorite.

TikToker Charlotte Rose (@charlotterose251) said the incident was a “huge loss”.

“I ordered Instacart to get some groceries and I ordered some lemons. Right?” she said. “Pretty easy.”

“There’s nothing complicated about picking a few lemons,” she continued.

But there was a problem because the store was out of lemons.

Her Instacart shopper tried to resolve the issue.

She said the person did not mark the lemons as out of stock on the app.

So she wasn’t asked if she wanted a refund, or if she wanted a replacement.

Then she held up a box of fake lemons.

“My Instacart shopper thought these fake plastic lemons would be a suitable substitute for a pound of real lemons,” Charlotte said.

“Am I crazy or does this make no sense?” she asked. “Like, what do I do with this?”

People in the comments section had a lot to say.

“This is a man’s job lol,” is the most popular answer.

“I thought you’d say they had a bottle of lemon juice, but THIS?” said a second.

“This might be my favorite strange vicissitude,” said a third.

She accepted TikTok to share a slideshow of her purchases, as she wrote: “£150+ worth of beauty for just £23!

“House bargains have done it again!”

First up was the SkinGlow range, which is “selling fast”, Kelly noted.

She bought the facial serum for £2.49 instead of the recommended retail price of £15, the night cream for £2.99, the facial scrub for £1.99 instead of £12.50, the day cream for £2.99 instead from £17.50 and the eye serum for £2.49.

“I have to say for £2.49 it’s worth the trip!” Kelly gushed.

She then showed off the items she had purchased from other ranges, including the Garnier thyme toner for £1.99 instead of £5.99.

The Selfless by Hyram range is always popular, and she bought the pore cleansing serum for £1.79 instead of £22, and the daily gel cleanser for £1.99 instead of £18.

Kelly also bought some shaving cream for 99p instead of a recommended retail price of £4.50.

And she couldn’t resist the huge tubs of Skincare collagen cream and retinol cream.

“Not a huge price difference, but this is an absolute must-have from HB,” she said.

‘Perfect for a neutral home,’ says the Home Bargain shopper as she tracks down the viral £19.99 concrete lamps in store

“I have both and also use large bathtubs every day, so they last a long time.”

She also bought the Skincare Revolution night cream for £2.99, as she said: “I’m giving this a try – I have a few Skincare Revolution pieces and I like the brand”.

And Kelly’s best purchase of the day was the Body Shop Edelweiss day cream, which cost just £3.99 instead of £30.

That means her total came to £23.70 – compared to a recommended retail price of £157.99 – meaning Kelly saved more than £130.

Other shoppers were quick to comment on Kelly’s bargains, with one writing: “The facial serum is nice.

“Very fruity smelling and leaves the skin nice and smooth.”

“Glycolic scrub is my favorite and really works! I use it twice a day,” said another.

“Those big containers that say retinol are rubbish: body cream at best,” a third commented.

As someone else wrote: “I wouldn’t worry about the body shop’s.

“It stinks because it’s almost past its expiration date.”

In a recent one videoshe held up a huge package as she said, “We have a big summer boohoo harvest.”

And Ellie raved about a stylish £18 black corset with pocket detail, available in sizes 6-16, which is currently on sale for £14.40

The size 10 football WAG – the girlfriend of Celtic’s Liam Shaw, currently on loan at Wigan Athletic – said: “We have this beautiful black corset top which I thought would be really nice with just a pair of jeans and a pair of tiny heels or a pair of black sandals. .

“It has a little bandeau top and little pockets at the bottom.

“I thought it was a little bit different, pretty cool.

“You can obviously wear this with jeans, with little black shorts.

“I just thought it was a very nice, good holiday basic that is just a bit different.

“I definitely recommend this one. I love it, I love the pockets.”

And Ellie raved about a hidden feature in the top, as she added: “There’s also a little sticky piece on the top to keep it in place.”

Ellie modeled the top with Zara jeans and black heels.

Fashion fans are racing to get their hands on ‘the dress of the summer’ from Sainsbury’s and it’s ‘identical’ to a chic Nobody’s Child version

“I think this is a beautiful evening holiday outfit, I can’t fault it,” she said.

Ellie also grabbed two skorts, a black satin shirt, a brown mesh top, a beige sweater and a blue co-ord set.

But she rounded out her harvest with two dress fails.

Firstly, the size 10 fashionista was unable to get her usual size past her thighs, and advised all shoppers to go at least two sizes up in a £38 linen blazer dress with draped details.

She said: “It wouldn’t even go past my bum and my legs, and I don’t think I have really big thighs, so yeah, definitely size up because that’s a shame.”

She also promised to return a £28 red halterneck maxi dress, which she decided didn’t suit her because she had “quite big shoulders”.

Her Boohoo purchases come just weeks after the blonde beauty picked up her first ever Tesco clothing collection.

Ellie also insisted fashion fans are “sleeping on supermarket fashion” after making a Sainsbury’s trek wearing Zara dupes and a “stunning” sale jacket.

She said: “Tesco and Sainsbury’s are incredible.

“I hope this has inspired you to head to your local Sainsbury’s as once again I feel like we are learning a lot about these supermarket stores.

‘We still have Asda and Morrisons left [to try].”

Many of us know the horror of opening a package and discovering that what we ordered is very different from what we received.

That includes Emily Probst, who ordered a ball gown from fast fashion giant Shein and was sent a dress that looked “not even close” to the photos.

“I guess this is what I get when I use Shein,” she said on Facebook.

Emily picked a dress with a satin skirt and a sleeveless mesh bodice decorated with glitter and gemstones.

In a strange turn of events, she was given a short-sleeved gown studded with sequins.

The only similarity was the length of the dresses and the soft pink color.

“It's not even close,” noted Hanka Červinková.

“The original has barely any sequins and the one you received is drowning in them,” Maricella Duval added.

“How does that make sense?

“I would email customer service.”

Sarah Nagy joked that the dress “isn't that bad if you're going to be the mother of the bride in the 1990s.”

However, some shoppers were adamant there had been confusion with orders and insisted the disparity in the designs must be “a genuine mistake”.

“I think they sent you the wrong dress,” Julie Gardner suggested.

'I've never had a problem with Shein.

“But I've never ordered formal dresses from them either, so I'm not sure.”

Samy Niegut echoed the same sentiment.

“I never had any problems with Shein,” she wrote.

“That seems like a legitimate mistake, like they sent you the wrong dress.

“I would send them an email.

“They're usually great when something's wrong.”

Marks and Spencer shoppers say they've found the best jacket that's 'so versatile and perfect for spring'.

But that's not all, the jacket is also friendly to the wallet.

The M&S Collection Pure Cotton Denim Relaxed Shacket costs just €29.50 and comes in a beautiful off-white color that will match any outfit.

It is available in five sizes: X small, small, medium large and X large.

The versatile jacket is also made from 100% cotton, so you know it will be comfortable and breathable when the weather warms up.

“This pure cotton denim shacket is a versatile addition to your wardrobe,” says M&S.

“It has a relaxed fit, with a classic neckline with collar and button closure at the front.

“Two patch pockets on the chest provide an authentic look and provide space for storage.”

Although the shaket only recently came out, it's already sold out in two sizes online and has a nearly five-star rating online.

Fashion fans were quick to praise their new addition to their wardrobe.

'It gave me an hourglass figure' shoppers rave about M&S's 'figure-enhancing' shapewear that rivals SKIMS, but it's much cheaper

One person wrote: “Great jacket at a reasonable price. Great for spring, would recommend.”

Another commented: “The ideal outerwear for the transitional season.

“An ideal combination of shirt and jacket. It can be worn on both formal and informal occasions and the color makes it versatile. It is also loosely cut, but does not look too bulky.”

“I had read previous reviews and thought they sounded impressed. I'm so glad I ordered as I'm sure this will sell out. So versatile and suitable for a few seasons,” wrote a third.

Meanwhile, a fourth said: “Great neutral jacket. Will bridge the gap between spring and summer nicely. Runs quite big. I tend to be 16 but 14 was fine.”

“Great jacket, thicker than expected for the price and love the relaxed fit for layering over sweaters,” said a fifth.

Someone else added: “I wanted a cream 'cover-up' for the cold evenings on holiday. I bought a size smaller as recommended by several reviews and it works perfectly. Fits everything.”

Although the weather is currently unpredictable, this jacket is praised for its multi-season durability, allowing you to weather both colder and warmer days.

You can pair the versatile jacket with the Floral Angel Sleeve Midaxi Tea Dress, which shoppers call “the perfect dress” and is available in stores.

A WOMAN who bought a toy car from a charity shop for a few pounds was left stunned when she realized its true value.

Amy Fenton found an antique Matchbox collectible in Aladdin's Caves charity shop in Rossendale – and bought it for just £2.

At first, Amy thought the antique collectible would be a good addition to her collection of showpieces.

She said LancLive: “While visiting my favorite store, I was immediately drawn to this Matchbox collectible that imitated a newspaper delivery van.

“At just £2 it was a no-brainer for me to buy it.”

What Amy bought was a mini Moko Lesney car decorated with A3 size posters that were part of the original Matchbox family.

And her piece, created in 1958, was number “No.42” in the collection.

Amy soon realized that what she picked from the charity shop could be much more valuable than she thought.

If you're willing to do your research, and enjoy browsing as much as I do, you can find a hidden gem in an antique store. And if you are lucky, you can make a profit.

Amy Fenton

“I was intrigued to find out how much the Evening News van, which was made in 1958, was worth,” she told the news site.

Amy then did a quick Google search to discover that a similar hidden gem, complete with the original box, was selling on eBay for £180.

Delighted with her discovery, Amy said: 'It seems I have inadvertently spotted a hidden gem.

“Similar items, complete with original box, are selling for up to £180 on eBay.”

I struck gold when I found a £3,000 gemstone in my charity shop's 20p jewelery box – but people tell me not to get too excited

Amy, who has a knack for collecting newspaper-themed pieces, also bought three knock-offs of the original Corgi vans.

“Just like her [corgi vans] They are reproductions, they are worth nothing as the originals would have been, but still proudly display in my home,” she told the news site.

Amy added that good digging for antique items and doing thorough research can help people find hidden gems in such stores.

“If you're willing to do the research and enjoy rummaging as much as I do, you can find a hidden gem in an antique store.

“And if you're lucky, you might be able to make a profit.”

Meanwhile, a woman was left buying a ring from a charity shop for a few pounds and was stunned to learn its true value.

The lady thought it was just a small piece of jewelry and bought the ring for just £5.50.

However, she was soon told that the ring, containing a huge 2.30 carat diamond, was far more valuable than a charity shop – and could fetch up to £8,000 at auction.

When she heard the big news, the delighted woman said it was the “best windfall” she had ever had.

She added: “I'm over the moon. You hear about these things happening to other people, but you never think it will happen to you.

“I've only worn the ring a few times. Now that I know its worth, I wouldn't be able to wear it because I would be too afraid of losing it.”

Ways to make money from charity shops

While many people love charity shop thrift shopping, only a few know how to turn it into a profitable side business.

Charity shops usually sell things donated by other people – sometimes very rich people giving away expensive things.

And they can be a treasure trove when it comes to picking up high-quality items at affordable prices.

People who shop at thrift stores at such stores can resell the items to make a profit for themselves.

One of the best platforms for selling goods bought from charity shops is eBay, where you can easily earn a few hundred pounds by putting in some part-time hours.

Luke Hadley says he earns an extra £500 every month by reselling items from charity shops.

He turned to resale last April, when millions of households were feeling the pinch of rising bills from energy to food.

The father-of-one searches his local charity shops for women's clothes from high-end stores and sells them on eBay for a profit.

Hadley, from the West Midlands, says it is worth it as he was able to give his 14-month-old son Harrison and partner Catherine Saunders, 25, a Christmas to remember.

He also took the family on a week-long holiday to Butlins and has started building up his savings and a separate emergency fund.

Meanwhile, a charity shop guru has shared his top three tips that could help you make a fortune.

According to the expert, people should look for shoes from brands such as Nike and Adidas because they sell quickly and generate the highest turnover.

The second tip to make good profits is to buy seasonal clothes from charity shops as they are always in high demand.

And finally, people should always check for vintage and antique items as these may prove to be very rare or valuable.
