The Chase star Darragh Ennis has asked ITV viewers to ‘consider’ their online reactions after he lost the final chase during Tuesday’s episode.

Despite catching one of the competitors, the rest of the team made it to the final and defeated Darragh, known as The Menace, to win thousands of pounds.

Following the episode, some fans took to X – formerly known as Twitter – to criticize Darragh’s performance, prompting him to hit back and insist that everyone ‘has bad days’.

The professional quizzer told people to judge less and be kind. He wrote: ‘On tonight’s show I had a bad few minutes. It escaped me and I started to miss the clues in the question.

‘It happens, we all have bad days. I don’t mind, but maybe think about what you post online about people in the public eye; it can be harmful. #The chase’.

Following the post, many ITV fans showed their support for The Menace, saying he is their ‘favourite Chaser’.

One wrote: ‘You are my favorite Chaser Darragh. Always a gentleman and so gracious in defeat.”

Another said: “Keep your chin up mate.”

A third added: ‘Ignore the idiots, you’re still smarter than 99% of them.’

A fourth wrote: ‘I think Darragh was sick, you could hear it in his voice. Even chasers get days off.”

Another added: ‘Darragh gets a lot of abuse here, but hardly any credit for the team that successfully pushed him back all nine times.’

However, some comments weren’t so kind as one unimpressed viewer added: ‘You’re taking yourself a bit seriously aren’t you’, to which Darragh replied: ‘Very plainly said I don’t mind. “I just want to point out how damaging online vitriol can be to some people and encourage people to maybe think again.”

In 2020, Darragh was revealed as the long-awaited sixth quizzer like him joined the five known formidable chasers, Mark Labbett, Shaun Wallace, Anne Hegerty, Paul Sinha, Jenny Ryan.

Darragh first appeared on the game show as a contestant in March 2017, where he earned an impressive £9,000 when he faced Paul during the episode.

But his teammates decided to accept Chaser Paul’s lower bids, dropping the fund to £2,700.

At the time, fans felt Darragh deserved more and the hashtag #JusticeForDarragh trended on Twitter – with some fans even starting a Go Fund Me to raise money.

Darragh’s first chase episode aired on November 19, 2020 and its debut attracted 4.9 million viewers, making it the most watched episode of The Chase at the time.

In The Chase, participants play against a professional quizzer, known as a Chaser, who tries to prevent them from winning a cash prize.

A team of four participants try to collect as much money as possible, which is then added to a prize fund if the participant survives the chase.

The Chasers are tasked with catching the competitors during their individual rounds, to prevent the money from being added to the prize pool.

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
