The narrowest house in the world is only one meter wide, but was built out of spite after a heated argument from neighbors over its construction.

Casa du Currivu – translated as “house of grudges” – is a thin brick wall with windows and a balcony in the Sicilian village of Petralia Sottana.

The bizarre structure has become an unlikely tourist attraction, with people traveling to an otherwise unpopular city for the chance to glimpse the building.

Seen from the front, it may appear to be a modest two-story house with windows, a front door and a house number on the side.

Nothing seems out of the ordinary until you walk a little further and look from the side.

That’s when you discover that the walls of the building are only a meter thick – barely enough space for a person to live comfortably.

But don’t be in a hurry to write it off as useless; the house may not have been habitable, but it served the owner’s purpose.

According to local legend, the House of Spite was built in the 1950s after a feuding neighbor came up with a brilliant revenge plan.

At the time, it was common for Sicilians to expand their homes upwards by adding more floors to their buildings.

But to go ahead with such changes one had to obtain permission from them neighbors.

A local man fell out with his neighbor after he was denied approval to proceed with his construction plans.

The neighbor in question did not want to have any obstructions to the beautiful view that opened up from the windows of his house, and thus rejected the man’s request.

But the clever and small man came up with a loophole to get back at his steadfast friend.

Instead of breaking the rules and adding more floors to an existing house, he decided to build a brand new building – right in front of the neighbor’s lot.

The construction ultimately blocked the landscape of the picturesque hills and became an eyesore for the people living opposite.

To rub salt in the wound, the side opposite the neighbor was even painted black and has only one window – a rather depressing sight.

Meanwhile, the facade of the narrow house is decorated with red brick.

The building has nothing inside and is technically just a brick wall with a staircase.

The owner of the House of the Spire built it knowing that he would not be able to live in the building.

However, it appears that harassing his neighbor was for a good reason.

In the meantime, England sport- his own “thinnest house” which is only one and a half meters wide at its narrowest point.

It has no dramatic backstory, but offers five floors of livable space with a kitchen, bathroom, two bedrooms and even a reception room.
