The world’s most complained about tourist queues ranked: The Eiffel Tower comes in at number 1, followed by the London Eye – with the Empire State Building line drawing the most groans in the US
It is one of the most striking structures in the world, but the queue for visitors leaves many people with an Eiffel-like feeling.
In fact, the queue at the iconic Eiffel Tower in Paris tops the world’s most complained about queues, with the London Eye in second place and the Colosseum in third place for queue groans.
The list, through hawaiianislands.comwas produced from an analysis of 10.74 million Tripadvisor reviews for the top 100 ‘Traveler Favorite’ attractions in each country, keeping a record of reviews containing the phrase ‘long queue’.
The Eiffel Tower takes the unwanted cake with 4,799 ‘long queue’ entries.
One Eiffel Tower reviewer on Tripadvisor commented: ‘Five stars for the Eiffel Tower. One star for the huge crowds and long lines everywhere. Be prepared.’ Another reviewer advises: ‘Book your tickets online well in advance to avoid the notoriously long queues. We opted for a guided tour with skip-the-line access, which I highly recommend.”

The London Eye is in second place in the rankings thanks to 4,756 queue complaints.
The attraction has 32 capsules and a capacity of 800 people ‘per turn’ – and visitors will be given a time slot for their visit. But the wait can still be longer than 45 minutes one reviewer he describes the queue as ‘long and slow… even with fast-track tickets’.
The Colosseum in Rome comes in third place with 4,262 references to a ‘long queue’.
British theme park Legoland Windsor Resort comes in fourth with 4,017 mentions, followed by Barcelona’s Sagrada Familia (fifth, 2,992) and the Empire State Building (sixth, 2,842).
In a review for this breathtaking Manhattan landmark: said one reviewer: ‘My only negative is the long, tight queues. There is a queue of about 15 to 20 minutes on the street, before another 10 to 15 minute queue to get through security and then another two queues of 10 to 15 minutes for the two sets [elevators] to get up.’
Alton Towers Resort in Britain follows the Empire State Building in seventh place (2,676), while in eighth place is a Spanish water park – Siam Park in Adeje – with 2,605 mentions, followed by Disneyland Paris (ninth, 2,453) and Universal Studios Singapore (tenth, 2,054).
Despite drawing attention as the tallest building in the world, Dubai’s Burj Khalifa ranks lower, ranking 14th (1,818).
This list, compiled by hawaiianislands.com, was compiled from an analysis of 10.74 million Tripadvisor reviews for the top 100 ‘Traveler Favorite’ attractions in each country, with a summary of reviews that use the phrase ‘long queue’ contain.
And despite being one of the world’s most sought-after tourist attractions, Britain’s Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter only came in 20th place (1,304) according to another recent survey.
Other British attractions with ‘long queue’ reviews include Paultons Park in Romsey (ninth in Britain, 1,239) and London’s Natural History Museum (10th in Britain, 1,235), the survey said.
Focusing on the US, the queues causing the most grumbling after the Empire State Building are Top of the Rock (19th, 1,305); The San Francisco Cable Cars (third, 871); the Universal Islands of Adventure in Orlando, Florida (fourth, 860); and the Statue of Liberty in New York City, New York (fifth, 837).
In Australia, long queue complaints are most often uploaded to Warner Bros. Movie World in Oxenford, Queensland (first, 526), the Wet’n’Wild Gold Coast water park in Oxenford (second, 223); and the Scenic World Blue Mountains at Katoomba (third, 182).
