A bartender famous on social media has been criticized for promoting a drink that has a name branded as ‘racist’ by the traveling community.

Adam Rigby, who often posts drinks on his Man Cave Bartender Instagram, TikTok and YouTube pages, has come under fire for promoting a drink called The Traveller’s Wife – so named because it is ‘black and blue’ referring to a stereotype that travelers are violent towards their spouses.

Although Adam from Birmingham noted in his post that the name of the drink, made from WKD and Guinness, was already set and not his own creation, he was still criticized by a prominent Irish traveler and politician on X, formerly Twitter.

Adam, who has more than 100,000 followers on Instagram and often posts inventive concoctions to his page, initially posted the photo of his drink, which was covered in blue WKD at the bottom of the glass and finished with the stout, with a caption explaining the name of the drink.

He wrote: ‘The traveler’s wife, because it’s black and blue (I didn’t mention this)’

Adam added several emojis to the post, including a fist and a shy face hiding behind his hands.

At the time James screenshotted the post, it had been liked 189 times, but the aspiring politician was unimpressed by the drink.

‘Do it better [Adam Rigby].’

Another Twitter user, Meghan Berry, screenshotted Adam’s post about the drink on Facebook and said she was “disgusted” by it.

She wrote: ‘Domestic violence is not a specific Traveler problem, it is a social problem. In fact, it is a global problem that affects every group of people around the world, regardless of what walk of life they come from.”

In response to James, many people agreed that they found the drink’s name offensive.

One said: ‘There’s nothing funny about those stereotypical tropes, it looks like something from the 70s.’

Another of James’ followers, Cllr Joan Hopkins from Fingal, said it was ‘racist, sexist and generally disgusting’.

However, others suggested Adam’s now-deleted post was “just a joke” and accused James of not having a sense of humor about it.

The young politician later argued that the fact that people could not see why he was offended by the post showed that ‘racism against Irish travelers has been normalised’.

He also claimed that he criticized Adam for the post and that the bartender blocked him.
