Revealed: Uber is launching the flight booking feature in its app for UK users this summer

Uber has announced a new UK feature that allows users to book flights directly in the Uber app.

The new functionality – powered by online travel agency Hopper – will be available to all UK users this summer and will allow them to book domestic and international flights from within the app.

To book a flight, users of the Uber app must enter their travel details, including where they will be traveling there and back, along with the dates.

Customers can then select their departing flight and return flight if it is a return flight.

Major carriers allow users to select seats in the app and then pay, just like any Uber service.

Uber said this new functionality will enable “a true door-to-door experience for air travelers, with all parts of the journey manageable in Uber’s smart itinerary.”

In addition, the ride-share company said that by partnering with Hopper, it can offer customers “multiple unique peace of mind products to make air travel stress-free,” including “price freeze, flight disruption guarantee, cancellation for any reason, change for any reason and VIP support’.

Flights on Uber join existing transportation options, including Uber Rides, Uber Boat by Thames Clippers, rail travel on the National Rail network, Eurostar, and bus travel on National Express and Megabus.

And Uber recently integrated bookings with Heathrow Express, making booking through the airport shuttle service seamless.

Andrew Brem, General Manager at Uber UK, said: “We are incredibly excited to introduce Flight Bookings as the latest addition to Uber’s range of travel booking options.

“Perfect for both business and leisure travelers, our new functionality makes booking and managing air travel simple and stress-free, with the booking process taking just a minute in the Uber app. Over the last 12 months, with the addition of train, bus and now flight bookings, Uber is truly a one-stop travel solution.”

Frederic Lalonde, CEO and co-founder of Hopper, said: “The addition of flights to the Uber app is a major win for UK consumers looking for a simpler way to book travel. This new partnership gives Uber users choice, transparency and flexibility when booking flights, all in the same place where they book all their other transportation.”
