Umesh suffered an injury and that was the reason why his name did not appear in the Test squad.
Bombay: When the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Test and ODI squad for the Windies tour last week, one name not on the list was veteran pacer Umesh Yadav. Umesh was part of the squad in the final of the World Test Championship. While it was thought that Umesh was dropped from the squad after his dismal showing in the WTC final, apparently that is not the case. In a final report on TOI, it is believed that Umesh suffered an injury and that was the reason why his name did not appear in the Test squad. Umesh has suffered a hamstring injury that has prevented him from being selected for the Tour of Windies.
After going wicketless in the first essay of the WTC final against Australia at the Oval, Umesh took two wickets in the second innings. “Umesh is suffering from a hamstring injury and is recovering at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore,” a BCCI manager told TOI.
In the absence of Umesh, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, it is likely that young Navdeep Saini will get a chance during the two-Test series.
