It is unclear what caused the fire and whether there were any casualties.

The raging inferno is said to have started after 5:30 pm local time on Thursday in a building on a roundabout between Maestro Rodrigo Avenue and General Avilés Avenue in Valencia, Spain.

A tenant told local media that the fire started in one of the units and spread throughout the building.

Video footage filmed from the ground showed residents helpless on their balconies as fire raged on the floors above and below them.

The top of the building appeared to crumble as bright orange flames engulfed dozens of homes.

In one clip, a rescuer standing at the top of a tower crane appeared to reach for someone who was trapped.

Local media reported that several metal plates fell to the ground, floors and cars before fire and police personnel arrived on the scene.

According to Economía Digital, police began cordoning off the area from 6:45 p.m. local time, fearing the fire could spread to nearby buildings.

The building was believed to be the last built in Valencia’s Nou Campanar district during the real estate boom.
