Mumbai: Things got a bit out of hand at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Thursday when the crowd started chanting ‘Sara, Sara’ just to tease Shubman Gill. Taking on Sri Lanka at the venue, India were dominating the proceedings when these chants started to get a bit awkward and disturbing when Sara Tendulkar was in the stadium. Just when things seemed to be going wrong as the fans started shouting ‘Hamari bhabi kaisi ho’, former India captain Virat Kohli stepped in and took control. Kohli requested the Mumbai crowd to stop making ‘Sara’ taunts and instead hail Shubman Gill. Here is the video that is now going viral on social media.

Earlier in the day, Kohli and Gill reached a record-breaking stand of 189 runs.

Meanwhile, Indian pacers Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj drew an under-prepared Sri Lanka with a fast bowling exhibition as Rohit Sharma-led India defeated the Islanders by a record 302 runs to enter the semi-finals of the 2023 ODI World Cup .

While Shami claimed 5-18, Mohd Siraj took 3-16 as India threatened to bowl out Sri Lanka for their lowest ever total after the 1996 World Cup winners’ tally was reduced to 22/7 after 12 overs.

It was Mohammad Siraj who won 6-21 in the Asia Cup final, on Thursday Shami won 5-18, leaving the Sri Lankans shocked.

While Bumrah claimed one wicket, Siraj and Shami took two wickets each in their first overs as Sri Lanka ended the powerplay with a paltry score of 14/6.

Bumrah started the carnage by taking a wicket off the first ball, trapping Pathum Nissanka lbw with one that slid back in to hit the back pad, handing the Sri Lankan opener a golden duck.
