Immigration rate in Great Britain

Net migration to Britain reached record levels last year, official figures showed, putting pressure on the British government which has made the issue a political touchstone, CNN reported in May. Britain saw net migration of 606,000 people in 2022, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), with 1.2 million people entering the country and around half that number leaving. CNN reported that despite pledges by successive Conservative governments to dramatically reduce the number of people moving to Britain, especially in the wake of Brexit – a break touted by its proponents as a necessary step for Britain to “take control of its borders”. The vast majority of people who arrived – 925,000 – were non-EU nationals, and around one in twelve of those were asylum seekers, which was included in the ONS’s annual release for the first time. According to UK Immigration Statistics, Indian nationals were granted the largest number of UK study, work and visitor visas last year.
