Local residents and police rushed to the spot along with fire tenders to douse the fire, they said, adding that as many as 30 shops and a residential house were destroyed in the blaze.

According to an official, the fire broke out in a store and quickly spread to other nearby buildings. Thirty stores were damaged in the fire, he said.

Officials praised the army’s role and said the quick response of Indian Army personnel from a nearby camp played a crucial role in controlling the fire and preventing loss of life.

“After receiving reports of the fire, the Indian Army based in Boniyar immediately mobilized its resources, including water bulldozers and firefighting equipment, to the site. Their quick action significantly helped contain the fire, preventing further spread and additional damage to the market or nearby buildings,” an official said.

Soon, fire and emergency services personnel also arrived to strengthen firefighting efforts, they said.

“The joint response of the Indian Army and Fire Services effectively contained the situation, demonstrating a coordinated and efficient approach to emergency management. The collaboration incident highlights the importance of a well-coordinated effort between the military and civilian services in addressing emergencies.”
