DRAMATIC video has emerged of the terrifying moment a shark attacked a group of tourist divers in the Maldives.

The huge fish approached one diver before moving towards the next onewhich crashed into each of them with its powerful head and snout.

A Cayman Islands spearfishing guide, Cameron Kirkconnell, shared the clip with him Instagram page as a reminder to his 126,000 followers to keep their wits about them while diving.

He captioned the video: “Shark diving fun in the Maldives.

“I don't want my Instagram to be full of this, but this was a great example of people being put in a situation that they thought was right. It wasn't.”

Mr Kirkconnell clarified that the video was not his own, but that he used it to call for a ban on tourists diving with sharks.

According to reports, the attack took place recently in the Maldives and involved divers with little experience sharks.

In the video, which was shared by locals to Telegram news channel MvCrisis on February 3, the divers were reportedly filmed moments after attempting to free a shark entangled in a rope or net.

It is clear that no one was seriously injured.

Divers and diving fans flocked to the comments section of Mr Kirkconnell's video, deploring the actions of those in the clip.

One person wrote: “And all they had to do was gently touch its nose and send the beautiful creature in another direction.”

Another said: “The shark is panicking, there is something around it. You can see it is dragging the line. It panics and doesn't look where it is going and hits all the divers.”

There are approximately 100 shark attacks around the world each year, with dozens of both unconscious and at-risk swimmers mauled by the fish.
