A man believed to be searching a charity clothing bin has died after being crushed headfirst when he lost his balance on a bicycle he was standing on.

Emergency services were called to Westfield Tuggerah on the NSW Central Coast about 4.25am on Tuesday after a passerby saw legs hanging out of the charity box.

Officers arrived to find the body of a man trapped in the parachute who had died at the scene, while witnesses saw a bicycle on the ground at the foot of the bin.

A crime scene has been established on Wyong Road, to the east of the car park, and investigations are ongoing, but police believe the death was accidental.

A worker from Westfield told Daily Mail Australia that two of his colleagues, who work in a bakery, walked past the bins at around 3am when they arrived at work.

In the dark morning light they saw a bicycle lying on the ground under the boxes, but they did not notice the protruding body.

“We were told he stood on his bike to keep himself upright as he tried to get stuff out of the bin, but the bike fell and he got stuck,” said the man, who asked not to be identified. to stay.

'It's very sad. They need to do something to prevent people from falling for it. Like an internal latch or something.”
