New Delhi: Rohit Sharma will continue as India’s Test captain against the West Indies next month, while reports say Cheteshwar Pujara’s selection could be in doubt given his performances in the red-ball format in recent years. The India vs West Indies Test series kicks off on July 12.

It is also clear that Mohammed Shami can rest against the West Indies in Tests due to the opinion that he is overcooked while there are chances that Sanju Samson can take a look at ODIs and T20Is.

Based on a Cricbuzz report, the shape of Pujara has been questioned in the recent past. In his last 28 Tests for India since 2020, Pujara has just one century to his credit. To make matters worse, the way he donated his wicket in the World Test Championship final in both innings against Australia will be discussed in depth by the selectors for India No.3.

In case Pujara is left out, chances are that Yashasvi Jaiswal will make his debut for India in Tests. Meanwhile, kthe selectors stay with KS Bharat as the wicket-keeper in the longest format. There will be discussions about the workload of Mohammed Siraj and the Indian management will try to use him sparingly, taking into account the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup later this year.

Arshdeep Singh, who currently plays County Championships, and Umran Malik may be included in the West Indies series, but it is still unclear which team they will end up in. As usual, Hardik Pandya will lead the squad in five T20Is and with no seniors.

There is a chance that fast bowlers Mohit Sharma and Mukesh Kumar will be named in the series for the West Indies after their brilliant performances in the recently concluded Indian Premier League.
