San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy He feels like he abandoned his coach and teammates after their 2024 Super Bowl LVIII loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

After the game, Purdy was seen sullenly heading to the sideline as a 49ers coach pulled him into a hug after a heartbreaking loss. The 49ers held a lead for most of the game, but the Chiefs pulled out the victory, scoring a last-minute touchdown from Mecole Hardman Jr. in the final minutes of extra time. The Chiefs won 25-22.
Ahead of the Super Bowl, Purdy shared that he had changed his nickname “Mr. Irrelevant” – a nickname given to the last pick in the NFL draft – as he prepared for the big game.
'Do I think it's time to choose a new nickname? I'm okay with 'Mr. Irrelevant.' It’s all good,” Purdy said while speaking to reporters on Monday, Feb. 5, according to NFL officials X account.
Purdy got his chance with the 49ers last year as a quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo And Trey Lance injuries sustained.
“I mean, the bottom line is that life isn't about you. That is what I believe,” he said on Monday. “When you're part of something bigger than yourself, you get caught up in getting all the glory and fame and status, and I feel like that's a superficial life and that can fade away pretty quickly.”

He went on to say that he is “very honored and grateful” to play in the Super Bowl and that he wants to win a championship for “this organization.”
“But most of all, I try to serve and love my guys on this team, and the entire organization and everyone in my life. That's how I see it,” Purdy added.
While Purdy reached a milestone in his career, he also reached another milestone with his relationship with his fiancée Jenna Brandt. The duo — who met while attending Iowa State University, where Purdy played football and Brandt was a setter on the volleyball team — announced their engagement in July 2023 after a year of dating.
“WE CAN DO LIFE TOGETHER… FOREVER!” Brandt wrote via Instagram alongside several photos from their beachside engagement. “Brock Purdy – I love everything about you and your heart for Jesus more than words can say.”
For his part, Purdy posted a separate Instagram post with a sweet caption.
“My Jenna girl forever. I can't wait to be your husband and grow together in Christ. To an eternity, darling. I love you JB!” he wrote at the time.
