HOW DID GUNTHER GET HIS MONEY?
The fascinating but bizarre story of Gunther’s wealth comes from his grandfather Gunther III.
The money has been passed down through generations after the first dog was left with an inheritance worth more than £277 million after its owner died in 1992.
A German countess named Karlotta Leibenstein left her entire enormous estate to her beloved dog because she had no other family.
Lucy Clarkson, Gunther’s head of PR, broke the story, saying: “Karlotta Leibenstein was a German countess who lived in Munich.
“She got the fortune from a great pharmaceutical company that made so much money.
“In February 1992, the Countess died. When she died, she had no immediate relatives, no one around her, and she gave everything to her dog, Gunther, whom she loved so much.
“And then the Gunther Trust was created to make sure the money stayed with Gunther and the bloodline.”
Since then, Gunther’s team has made an impressive number company decisions to maintain their investments, causing the dog’s wealth to skyrocket.

Fooling the world
Despite the story sounding so bizarre and unusual, millions around the world fell in love with the world’s richest dog.
He’s even in the Guinness World records (GWR) book and was featured in hundreds of newspapers in the late 1990s.
However, everything was too good to be true and the real story of Gunther’s millions finally came out.
GWR were the first to spot a problem when they stripped his title in 1999 and never mentioned his name again.
A spokesperson said at the time that there was not enough evidence to support the claims about Gunther’s wealth, meaning the record was invalid.
But it wasn’t until 2023 that the facts were officially revealed.
While filming a documentary, Mian confessed that he had made up the whole story about the countess.
Filmmakers got him to admit to the hoax after they searched for the old woman’s birth and death certificates but never found them.
Gunther is clearly a real dog and he comes from a very wealthy family, but his intriguing story is not true.
The money actually belonged to Mian’s wealthy family, who would spend like crazy to give themselves and Gunther the perfect life.
Even the Gunther itself was actually owned by Mian’s ex-girlfriend, Antonella Signorini.
