It follows a surprise upgrade to the current version of Android that now allows users to edit messages.

But something even more useful could come later this year.

Nerds have been busy trying out the Android 15 beta and have discovered a new feature called “Notification Cooldown”.

And it sounds ideal for anyone who's ever been bombarded with alerts from the same source, like a friend sending too many back-to-back messages on WhatsApp or a flood of work emails throughout the day.

Instead of stopping the notifications altogether (which you can already do), the tool cleverly reduces the rapid amount of alerts your phone pings at once.

The feature description says it will “gradually lower the notification volume when you receive many consecutive notifications from the same app.”

Three options are available within the setting: apply to all notifications, apply to conversations, or disable.

The Android Authority website revealed the upcoming feature, describing it as a “game changer”.

Another added: “I only need this because my kids can't seem to get their head around putting more than one sentence in a text.”

Android 15 – codenamed Vanilla Ice Cream – will see the arrival of several new features and design tweaks.

While nothing is set in stone, the very first beta has already given us a first look at what to expect.

Partial screen sharing, more in-app camera controls, and the return of lock screen widgets are among the additions likely on the horizon.
