It was the first time since the 3-1 defeat to Barcelona in 2011 that the north London team had failed to register a shot on target in the competition.

Arsenal's goal came in the match through an own goal by Sergio Busquets.

The front three of Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka all struggled against Porto.

Martinelli failed to score a shot the entire match, while Saka only managed to touch the ball in the opponent's penalty area once.

The attackers were not helped by the supporting players, as Kai Havertz only headed wide once.

While defenders William Saliba and Ben White both missed chances with their heads.

There are even more statistics that are bad for Arsenal supporters.

The result was Arsenal's fifth consecutive Champions League knockout defeat.

The club's last win came in 2015, when they defeated AS Monaco 2-0 in France, but lost the leg on away goals.

Arsenal also let Porto make history with the winning goal.

Galeno's strike was Porto's last ever winning goal in the Champions League, after 93 minutes and 22 seconds.

Porto had a terrible record against English teams going into the match.

In the Portuguese team's last ten games against English opposition, they had won just once.

This win came against Chelsea in 2021, and they have lost each of their last six first leg matches.

After the match, Arteta admitted his side had “no threat” as they now trail ahead of the second leg.

He said: 'We lacked threat, much more threat, more aggression [was needed] especially when we had the ball in the final third, especially at the back too, more goal to help them.

“So we will adjust a few things to attack better, especially because, to be honest, we haven't conceded [chances] not at all, but we can do better.

“It's clear that we have to manage much better when you can't win.

“The way we handled the ball three times in deep areas is not good enough. And then it's rest.

“If you want to win the quarter-finals, you have to beat your opponent. And this is what we have to do now at the Emirates.”
