An URGENT warning has been issued to Asda shoppers as the supermarket was forced to recall a food product.

The retailer has pulled the product from its shelves over fears it could contain dangerous metal shards.

Consumers have been told that 450 gram bags of Taj Chopped Spinach should be returned to stores immediately.

A statement from the Food Standards Agency said: “Taj Foods is recalling Taj Chopped Spinach because it may contain pieces of metal. The possible presence of metal makes this product unsafe to eat.

“The affected product was only sold in Asda and Eden Farms.”

The Food Standards Agency added that no other Taj products are being recalled and the notice only affects a specific batch.

The notice only applies to consumers who have purchased a 450 gram package with an expiration date of January 2026.

Asda also posted a statement on their website on Saturday apologizing for the situation.

It said: “If you have purchased chopped Taj spinach, please return it to your nearest store for a full refund. You don’t need your receipt.

“We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused.”

Taj Foods added that the decision was taken as a precaution and that the chance that the item contained metal pieces was “very remote”.

The alert did not indicate how much metal might be in the straws.

However, swallowing sharp objects, such as metal, can damage the teeth, mouth and esophagus (esophagus) and pose a choking hazard.

If sharp fragments penetrate further into the body, they can puncture the intestines, which in severe cases can lead to internal bleeding.

High levels of metal poisoning can lead to irreversible conditions, such as brain damage and kidney and liver failure.

The Food Standards Agency warns if there is a problem with a food product, meaning it should not be sold.

This could be that it is contaminated with something, such as mold or metal, or that it has an incorrect expiration date on it.

Items are then removed from shelves or recalled (customers are asked to return the product).

People can then get their money back from the place where they purchased the items in question.

This comes just months after Asda was forced to issue an emergency recall for their own brand juice and some Calypso juices.

At the time, the Food Standards Agency said the straws supplied with these children’s drinks may have been contaminated with metal.

The warning applied to six Asda multipack drinks, including 3 x 150ml orange juice from concentrate, apple juice from concentrate and essential orange juice from concentrate.

It also contained 5x 150 ml apple and blackcurrant juice, apple and mango juice and apple and pear juice.

Asda also recalled packs of frozen hash browns last month over fears they could cause allergic reactions.

The bags of Frozen Crispy Hash Browns were found to be contaminated with Potato Croquettes, which contained milk and wheat (gluten) – neither of which was stated on the packaging.

The number of people in Britain with a food allergy is around two million.

Another 600,000 people have celiac disease – a condition in which the immune system attacks its own tissues when gluten is eaten.

In allergy sufferers, eating problematic foods can cause reactions ranging from sneezing and dizziness to life-threatening anaphylaxis, which blocks the airways.

In severe cases, this can cause a dramatic drop in blood pressure, unconsciousness and even death.
