BAFTA Film Awards 2024: Phoebe Dynevor and Jacob Elordi lead the nominees for the fan-voted EE Rising Star Award

Phoebe Dynevor and Jacob Elordi have been named among five stars nominated for the coveted EE Rising Star award at the 2024 British Academy Film Awards.

The Bridgerton star joins the Saltburn frontman along with fellow nominees Ayo Edebiri, Mia McKenna-Bruce and Sophie Wilde.

The nominees were announced on Wednesday by Stephen Graham at a press conference hosted by film critic and radio host Ali Plumb, ahead of the ceremony on February 18.

The nominees were selected by a panel of industry judges, including actors Daisy Edgar-Jones, Sope Dìrísu and Himesh Patel, as well as a host of celebrated casting directors, producers and industry experts.

Celebrating its 19th year, the EE Rising Star Award is the only award at the EE BAFTA Film Awards voted for by the British public. You can vote until February 16 at 12 noon.

Commenting on her nomination, Phoebe, who also recently starred in the thriller Fair Play, said: ‘Being recognized by the EE BAFTA Film Awards for the EE Rising Star Award is testament to the hard work of the entire team on ‘Fair Play’ who made this film brought to life.

‘I am truly grateful for this recognition and look forward to continuing to challenge myself with new roles and projects. Thank you to BAFTA and EE for placing me alongside this year’s incredible nominees.’

Jacob received critical acclaim for his performance in Emerald Fennell’s racy thriller Saltburn, and also played the role of Elvis Presley in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla.

He said: ‘I am deeply honored to be recognized by BAFTA and EE with a Rising Star nomination.’

Comedian Ayo played the lead role of Josie in the satirical comedy Bottoms, and also starred opposite Jeremy Allen White in the hit television show The Bear.

She said: “It is wonderful and humbling to receive this nomination. It is the greatest privilege to tell stories and make people laugh. I know I am in esteemed company and that this means the world.”

Mia starred in Molly Manning-Walker’s film How to Have Sex, which follows three British teenage girls on a wild holiday to Malia.

She said: “I have always been inspired by the work of the actors recognized in the BAFTA EE Rising Star category.

Meanwhile, Sophie, who recently appeared in horror film Talk To Me, said: ‘I’m so excited and grateful that BAFTA and EE have included me in this category and among this year’s brilliant nominees.

“To be recognized, and for Talk To Me, a film that we all put so much love and hard work into, is a privilege.”

The full shortlist of nominations for the 2024 British Academy Film Awards will be announced on Thursday, January 18.
