Brad Pitt and Javier Bardem film F1 movie at Rolex 24 in set photos

Brad Pitt And Javier Bardem make their self-titled Formula 1 racing film look as real as possible by filming scenes on Rolex 24.

The actors were seen working at the 62nd Rolex 24 at the Daytona International Speedway in Florida on Saturday, January 27. They have been filming in the area for a few weeks, including at a local restaurant and laundromat, and will continue filming scenes during the race throughout the weekend.

John Doonanchairman of the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA), said the organization was more than happy to host Pitt and Bardem.

“When we were contacted by the film team about the opportunity to film here, we were very pleased that our property, Daytona International Speedway, the World Center of Racing and IMSA could be a part of it,” Doonan said in a press conference on Saturday. “It's a testament to the people making the film that they want it to be 100% authentic. They drove until 2 a.m. two nights ago.”

Filming will take place during the race, but Bardem, 54, or Pitt will not be behind the wheel. Professional racing drivers Adam Adelson, Elliott Skeer, Jan Heylen And Fred Makowiecki takes control of the Porsche 911 GT3 number 120, which is dressed in bright blue tones with green accents. They compete in the Rolex 24 for Wright Motorsports.

By using real racing footage, the Jerry Bruckheimer-produce a film that is as real as possible. “We've all seen racing films. We can all name our favorite racing movies,” Doonan added. “But for me it's about making sure the film is authentic. And while I didn't approve of the paint scheme, it looks pretty sharp.”

Pitt revealed that he plays a fictional driver named Sonny Hayes. “So [Sonny Hayes] has a terrible crash, falls out a bit and disappears and races in other disciplines. And then his friend, played by Javier Bardem, is a team owner,” he explained. “They are a last-place team. They are 21, 22 on the grid. They've never scored a point. They have a young phenom played by Damson Idris, and he brings me in like a Hail Mary and jokes ensue.”

The Apple Original Movie doesn't have an official title or release date yet, but there's certainly some impressive talent behind the camera. In addition to Bruckheimer and Pitt's Plan B Entertainment, seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton is a producer.

“Lewis, who is also our producer, is really committed to ensuring that we respect the sport, that we show it for what it is,” says Pitt. “I have to tell you that as a citizen I had no idea what it takes to be a driver. The aggression and agility: they are great athletes and I have so much respect for everyone in all classes.

In the meantime, Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski will direct the film. Pitt teased that Kosinski's experience filming at high speeds will only make the film even more unique. “You'll notice the cameras are mounted all over the car,” Pitt noted. “The shots, you've never seen speed, you've never seen G-forces like that. It's really exciting.”

Last year, Bruckheimer raved about Pitt's skills behind the wheel.

“It will be very exciting,” Bruckheimer (80) said. Entertainment tonight in November 2023 during the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Las Vegas. “We have Brad Pitt racing. We made some background films and we will be here again next year. … He does it all himself. He is a great athlete, the drivers are amazed at how good he is.”
