However, his history of failures in impulsive anger management had disappeared from his records, it was claimed.

Airlines bosses banned him from flying while they investigated.

It came to light when a whistleblower contacted the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to allege that the pilot’s medical records had been tampered with.

His superiors would have had no choice but to prevent the captain from entering the cockpit during their investigation.

A source said: “The idea of a captain in charge of passengers at 30,000 feet suddenly lashing out in fits of rage is a big no, no.

‘If anger management issues were part of his medical history, there is no chance he would be allowed to fly.

“Falsifying medical records is an incredibly serious charge and falls within the criminal realm of fraudulently obtaining a job.

“Bosses had no choice but to ground the pilot while an investigation took place.”

The pilot was reported to the CAA in mid-January.

It gives qualified pilots a pilot’s license, “provided you are not suffering from any physical or mental condition or disease . . . that could compromise the safe operation of normal flight controls.”
