And it seems that’s where their dedication lies their career is a major sticking point: almost half (47 percent) of those who work have had more work commitments in the past twelve months compared to the previous year.

But it’s not just them jobs that hinder social life – a perceived lack of time in general (27 percent) also prevents them from having their friends around.

Other barriers include how far apart they are (33 percent) and a lack of trust when it comes to hosting (15 percent).

The research was conducted on behalf of single malt Scotch whiskey brand, The Singleton, which collaborates with Jessie Ware and Monica Galetti to show how it’s done by hosting its own get-together at Monica’s central London restaurant, Mere.

Guests at the event earlier this week included fashion designers Daniel Fletcher and Henry HollandTable Manners Podcast host Lennie Ware, host Yasmin Evans, Chef‘S Greg Wallaceand bestselling author Candice Brathwaite.

Jessie Ware said: “For me, there’s nothing better than a good dinner party; hosting or being invited over for a friend – good food, good drinks, good people – heaven.”

The survey shows that 84 percent find it ‘important’ to spend meaningful time with friends and family.

But 54 percent have not had their loved ones for food and drink since October 2022 – almost a year and a half.

Interestingly, the same percentage (54 percent) also said they find hosting “challenging,” which could explain this possible reluctance to have people around.

But it’s not just about hosting: 37 percent have never attended such gatherings at other people’s homes houses neither in the past 17 months.

Other barriers include lack of a reason to gather (10 percent) and transportation issues (18 percent).

However, there is a desire among many respondents to overcome such barriers; 29 percent would like tips on how to rent successfully.

As for why she likes to end the night with a whiskey, Monica Galetti said, “Whether it’s with dessert or after everyone’s done and we just sit together and talk, it makes those last moments of the evening really special.”
