Distressed family members are also at the scene as the rescue is underway.

“Emergency services are currently searching for a teenage boy in the waters off Blowholes Road in Cape Bridgewater,” Victoria Police said.

“The teenager was with a friend when he was swept into the ocean just before 7.30pm and has yet to be located.”

Parks Victoria is warning those planning to visit the blowholes near Portland that strong currents are a hazard, as are slippery rocks and unstable cliffs.

The campsite has a 400-metre gravel path where you can view the rock formations. Many visitors describe conditions as windy.

“It can be very windy so make sure you stand and get your bearings as I saw some people getting very close to the edge for ‘the perfect photo’ without considering the windy conditions,” one person wrote in a review on TripAdvisor.

‘There was a lot of spray created by the constant crashing of the waves against the cliff and the rocks below. It was scary at times as the waves swelled high due to the extreme winds and intermittent rain that fell,” described another.

More to come.
