The actress was married to Tom Cruise when she had an ectopic pregnancy, meaning her fertilized egg was implanted outside the uterus, and towards the end of their marriage she also suffered a miscarriage.
Kidman and Cruise adopted Isabella and Connor, telling the outlet, “I know the longing. That desire. It's a huge, painful desire. And the loss! The loss of miscarriage isn't talked about enough. There is an enormous amount of pain and an enormous amount of joy on the other side of it. The downside of enduring so much longing and pain to get there is the feeling of “Ahhhh!” when you have the child.”
