And we are on our way

The action kicks off this afternoon with four-time world snooker champion Mark Selby against his compatriot and 2018 English amateur champion Joe O’Connor.

This round, like the previous rounds in the championship, will feature a round-robin before the top four advance to the semi-finals and eventual final.

Shelby has lost his last two matches, so he will be desperate for a win today.

While the 28-year-old recorded his first 147 on the World Snooker Tour last time out to win Group 7.

Why O’Sullivan isn’t playing

Ronnie O’Sullivan withdrew from the competition before his group had even finished.

The world number 1 played in group seven of the snooker Champions League at the end of February, beating Sam Craigie and Elliot Slessor 3-2 in his first two matches.

But in his third match he lost 3-0 to Jak Jones before losing 3-2 to Joe O’Connor in his next match.

O’Sullivan had two more scheduled matches, but tournament organizers confirmed the Rocket withdrew.
