Before the offer, most extra large chocolate Easter eggs cost £6 and this is the price if you buy the chocolate eggs without the Nectar card.

The cracking deal includes a range of different Easter egg chocolates, including some new additions.

Here's a list of all the chocolate Easter eggs included in the deal:

  • Cadbury Mini Eggs Chocolate Easter Egg 232g
  • Giant Cadbury Easter Egg with Dairy Milk & Caramel Bars 245g
  • Cadbury Creme Egg Giant Easter Egg 235g
  • Galaxy Milk Chocolate Extra Large Easter Egg 268g
  • Cadbury Giant Easter Egg With Swirling Milk Chocolate & Orange Bars 241g
  • Smarties Dinosaur Milk Chocolate Giant Easter Egg 226g
  • Smarties Sea Splash Milk Chocolate Giant Easter Egg 226g
  • Giant Cadbury Easter egg with flake bars 231.5g
  • KitKat Chunky Milk & White Chocolate Giant Easter Egg 230g
  • Maltesers Bunnies Easter Egg 236g
  • M&M's Giant Milk Chocolate & Peanut Easter Egg 313g
  • KitKat Bunny Milk Chocolate Giant Easter Egg 234g

By comparison, extra-large Easter eggs, also known as “giant” Easter eggs, usually cost around $5 to $11.

At Tesco, the Cadbury Dairy Milk Creme Egg Easter Egg 235g is currently £5, while Ocado has the Galaxy Milk Chocolate Extra Large Easter Egg 268g for £6.50.

Sainsbury's has not yet confirmed how long the offer will be available for, but we will update this story as soon as we have more information.

The offer is available in-store and online. If you order online, you must take delivery costs into account.

It is important to note that all eggs come in different sizes, but that does not change the price of the Nectar card.

You may have to go to a few different stores if you're looking for a specific Easter egg.

The deal was shared on the Hotukdeals website, but quite a few users claimed that they were not impressed with the deal.

One user said: “The scale of this is getting ridiculous. Only 30-50 grams more than the 'large' £2 ones.”

Another said: “The only difference between this size and a large one is an extra chocolate bar/cream egg/bag of mini eggs etc. A total rip off!!”

“Both shrinkflation and inflation…” said a third user.

What is a nectar card?

Nectar cardholders can also collect points while shopping in-store and online.

You'll receive one loyalty point for every £1 you spend at Sainsbury's.

You'll also get one point for every £1 you spend on fuel bought at Sainsbury's petrol stations. You can also collect points from hundreds of partners, including Esso and eBay.

The Nectar Card also gives customers exclusive discounts on hundreds of products, just like a Tesco Clubcard does.

You can register and download an e-Nectar Card by downloading the app on your smartphone.

All you have to do is swipe the card every time you shop and points will be added to your account so you can get cash on future purchases.

Each point is effectively worth 0.5 cents, which means you need 500 points to get a €2.50 discount.

This is the second major chocolate Easter egg deal Sainsbury is offering to customers in the run-up to Easter.

Last week the supermarket revealed it was cutting the price of all its large Easter eggs to £2, but that offer expired on February 20.

Tesco has today launched a similar deal, with a selection of more than 20 large Easter chocolates reduced in price to £2 for all Clubcard users.

Similarly, Morrisons has reduced the price of its Easter eggs to 75p if you have a More card.

Easter eggs from Maltesers, Cadbury Buttons, Smarties, KitKat and Freddo are now just 75p in Morrisons stores, with this offer ending tomorrow, February 21.

Remember, it's always good to shop around to make sure you're getting the cheapest deal.

The closer we get to Easter, the more likely it is that other retailers will compete to be the cheapest in an attempt to get your money's worth.

You can use shopping comparison tools such as Google Shopping and Trolley.co.uk to compare the cost of items from different sellers.

Also keep in mind that there's a chance you might get a different offer in store than online, so keep your eyes peeled.
