Tom Hanks posed for a rare photo with son Chet Hanks while we celebrate the holidays together.
‘Gang’, Chet, 33, wrote via Instagram on Tuesday, December 26. In the photo, the father-son duo subtly smiled as they sat close to each other.
Tom, 67, wore a green hooded jacket, evergreen hat and clear-rimmed glasses as he leaned toward his son. Chet wore a white T-shirt, a black hoodie and a black Los Angeles Dodgers baseball cap.
The winter photo marks the first time the Oscar winner has appeared on Chet’s social media page. However, Tom’s wife and Chet’s mother, Rita Wilsonappeared on the bill in May.
“The greatest GI knows @ritawilson loves you mom ❤️,” Chet wrote via Instagram at the time shared a photo with the actress, 67, on Mother’s Day.
Chet is Tom and Wilson’s eldest son. The couple, who married in April 1988, also share a son Truman Hanks. Tom is now also the father of an actor Colin Hanks and daughter Elizabeth Ann Hanks who he welcomed with late wife Samantha Lewes.
Despite appearing cozy with his father, Chet has had a tumultuous relationship with his parents over the years. During Chet’s ups and downs with his addiction, Tom spoke out about loving all of his children “unconditionally.”
The Save Mr. Banks actor said Entertainment tonight in October 2015: “You support them every step of the way. You have to applaud the courage and honesty when it actually comes from your own home.
During one of their positive moments, Tom and Chet played together in 2020 Greyhound. The following year, Chet described his childhood as “really normal.” He explained during a February 2021 appearance on the “Impaulsive” podcast that his parents didn’t “spoil” him.
However, Chet painted a slightly different picture in February 2022, claiming in a YouTube video that his experiences growing up were “complicated.” The rapper claimed that “besides the fact that fame was already toxic, I wasn’t even famous. I was just the son of a famous person, so I hadn’t even done anything to deserve any kind of recognition, and that created a lot of contempt.”
Chet went on to claim that “people did quite a bit to me growing up,” and said it was never to his face. “It always happened behind my back in the form of gossip and talk. I was also extremely distrustful of people and defensive,” he said.
He continued: “I didn’t have a strong male role model to tell me that. To tell me, ‘Bro, f–k these people. They’re just jealous of you. You have all these things that they want, so they try to throw their shade at you so you can feel good about yourself because they’re jealous,” he said. ‘I needed to hear that. I had no one to tell me that. This is me now telling the younger version of myself what I needed to hear back then.
Tom hasn’t publicly responded to Chet’s allegations, but… We weekly asked his representatives for comment.
