Former Sydney private schoolboy turned international financier Christopher Coe has died aged 39 in London after tragically falling from a building.

Christopher is the eldest son of flamboyant Australian businessman David ‘Coey’ Coe, who died at the age of 58 of a heart attack during a skiing trip to Colorado.

Like his famous father – whose funeral in Sydney in 2013 was attended by film and rock stars and Australia’s business, sporting and political elite – Chris Coe is remembered as charismatic and well-loved.

Sydney Boys Grammar graduate had worked with private equity firms in Australia and the UK, having earned a degree in arts and commerce from Sydney University and an MBA from Oxford University Business School.

Most recently he worked for Agilitas Private Equity in London.

Full details of his death have not yet been released, but sources told Daily Mail Australia that he fell off a building.

Chris, the eldest of David Coe’s three sons, gave a memorable eulogy at his father’s funeral ten years ago, describing him as his “mentor, coach, hero and best friend.”

More than a thousand people filled the Sydney Grammar school hall for the star-studded farewell, attended by stars such as Hollywood actor Russell Crowe and cricketers Shane Warne, Michael Clarke and Steve Waugh.

Other mourners included ex-Wallaby stars Phil Kearns, John Eales, George Gregan and Simon Poidevin, former Prime Minister John Howard, INXS guitarist Kirk Pengilly, Olympic boss John Coates and captains of industry.

At the ceremony, Christopher Coe recalled that after lunch in London just four months earlier, his father hugged him and said, “This is the last time I shall see you,” referring to the fact that he left London for business return to Sydney. .

“Had I known this was the last time I (ever) see him, I never would have let him go,” he told mourners.

David Coe’s second son Robert said his father had “fitted 10 lives into his 58 years,” while other relatives, business associates and sports figures shared stories of a generous man who was the life of the party and a brilliant businessman.

It was a failure that David Coe did not shy away from, but emerged from, supported by family, friends and business colleagues.

He became president of Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Art and has also served on the boards of the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation and the National Gallery of Australia Foundation.

Close friend and business partner Greg Woolley said at the time that David Coe “had integrity and charm in bucket loads and people just wanted to do business with him.”

“He had incredible intellectual capacity and incredible commercial capacity,” Mr Wooley said.

A memorial to honor the life of Christopher Coe will be held in Sydney in the coming weeks.

Daily Mail Australia has asked London’s Metropolitan Police for comment.
