It is clear that he worked on the site of the redevelopment of the John Hunter Hospital, which is run by Australian-based construction company Multiplex.

“A serious incident occurred this morning at our John Hunter Health and Innovation Precinct site where reinforcement fell and hit a worker,” a statement from Multiplex said.

NSW Health Minister Ryan Park sent his condolences to the man’s family, friends and colleagues.

“This is distressing for all concerned and support and advice is available for workers, staff and their families at this difficult time,” he said.

Police have established a crime scene on Jacaranda Drive, which has been investigated by specialist police.

A report is being prepared for the coroner and SafeWork NSW has been notified.
