Officer who tasered great-grandmother Clare Nowland, 95, takes cover in Cooma

The police officer who tasered 95-year-old Clare Nowland has been seen in public for the first time since berating the great-grandmother.

Kristian White, 33, was photographed by Daily Mail Australia on Wednesday while running errands with his wife, baby daughter and dog in Cooma.

The senior constable has been suspended with pay since Ms Nowland was tasered at Yallambee Lodge in southern NSW.

The great-grandmother died a week later from injuries sustained when she fell and hit her head.

The demented, who weighed just 100 lbs (43 kg), was holding a steak knife and “slowly” approaching police in her walker when she was shot.

Police have revealed to Daily Mail Australia that White has been in a ‘heightened emotional state’ since she was charged several times over the incident and ahead of Ms Nowland’s funeral next week.

Cooma police said the senior officer and his partner are “in an elevated condition at this time” as he prepares to appear in court next month.

Dressed in black shorts with a gray hoodie and flip flops, and wearing dark sunglasses, White looked dejected and pensive as he and his wife drove their daughter to take their pet German Shepherd to the vet in Cooma just before lunch. to bring.

They returned about 40 minutes later before driving to Cooma police station at around 11am.

White declined to answer questions about whether the Tasering had been an accident, or whether he had anything to say to Mrs. Nowland’s family.

It is also unclear whether he has been charged with manslaughter since Ms Nowland’s death on May 24, a week after he tasered her at the nursing home.

White and a female sergeant were taken out of bed in the early hours of May 17 to answer an emergency call to Yallambee, where Nowland had strayed from her residence.

Police say the 157 cm tall great-grandmother was on a walker in a treatment room.

The two officers confronted the “slow-approaching” pensioner who was holding a serrated knife and reportedly preparing to disarm here, when White reportedly said “no, motherfucker” and fired his taser into Ms. Nowland’s chest.

Ms Nowland fell to the ground and hit her head and reportedly suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and died surrounded by friends and family at Cooma Hospital a week later.

He will appear in Cooma local court on July 5, charged with grievous bodily harm, assault with bodily harm and common assault.

NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Peter Cotter has described bodycam footage of the Tasering as ‘confrontational’, while Commissioner Karen Webb has refused to look at it as police investigate the incident.

Kristian White faded from view as news of the Tasering made waves in Australia and beyond.

Police said White’s wife is “concerned” about attention being paid to her husband.

When approached at his home on Wednesday, showing full identification and announcing the media’s request to speak with him, he immediately drove to Cooma police station and reported fears of alleged strike and harassment.

Police said that despite the heightened emotions, they understood the media’s interest in their colleague.

Clare Nowland will be buried next Tuesday in Cooma Lawn Cemetery after a requiem mass was held at her parish, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in the Snowy Mountains town.

Mass will be led by three priests from the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn, including one of her eight children, son Father Bede.
