Chennai: Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin revealed that his locality has been experiencing power outage for over 30 hours and highlighted the challenging conditions people in Chennai are braving due to Cyclone Michaung that wreaked havoc in Tamil Nadu and neighboring states.

Ashwin, who was last seen in India colors during the 2023 ODI World Cup, is a resident of Chennai and has posted and shared several video clips from the underwater city on social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter).

“There has also been no power in my area for more than 30 hours. I think that is the case in many places. Not sure what options we have #ChennaiFloods,” Ashwin wrote while retweeting another post. Chennai witnessed some respite as rains stopped on Tuesday, but the Tamil Nadu state capital struggled to cope with widespread flooding, power outages and disruptions in mobile networks.

“Just hang in there for another day everyone. Even if the rain stops, recovery will take a while. #ChennaiRains2023 #Michaung,” the spinner had posted on Monday, while sharing a video of a damaged road.

At least 16 people have been killed in various rain-related incidents in Tamil Nadu. Personnel on fishing boats and agricultural tractors have been involved in rescuing stranded people in the city.
