Deborah Knight has reportedly been fired from 2GB radio after four years following a huge drop in her ratings.

The 50-year-old broadcaster was ‘stunned’ by the news she reportedly received last week, she reported The Sunday Telegraph.

Her contract was rumored to be a shocking $600,000 when she started the afternoon radio show in 2020 after being fired from the Today breakfast show.

But despite debuting with a stunning 11.4 percent audience share, she has since fallen to a record-low 6 percent share in the most recent survey.

While it is unclear whether the TV newsreader will be reinstated at Nine Television, contenders have reportedly already lined up for her position at 2GB.

Joe Hildebrand, who recently filled in for Deb, is considered a ‘favourite’, although fellow 2GB presenter Mark Levy may also be a contender for the role.

Daily Mail Australia has approached Nine Network for comment.

Deb took over the coveted afternoon time slot on 2GB and 4BC in 2020 after Steve Price was kicked out of his radio gig after almost a decade on air.

At the time, she said she had “the best of both worlds” as she continued to work as a television newsreader for Nine and as an absentee fill-in on Today.

Several months earlier, she and co-presenter Georgie Gardner had been sacked as Today presenters after consistently low ratings.

Deb was a regular with Steve, 68, for months before taking over his radio position, which began on January 13, 2020.

Before the news was confirmed, Steve spoke out about the rumors of Deb taking charge The Daily Telegraph the moment she is ‘competent’.

He added that it was not his decision to leave the network, but that the new owners, Nine Entertainment, “have decided to go in a new direction.”

“We just couldn’t agree on what I was going to do next year,” he told the publication.

Steve also said that he had a ‘big profile’ and therefore might appear on television more often.
