A dermatologist has revealed how to clear your skin by simply changing the way you wash your face.

The guidelines were shared on TikTok by a New York City dermatologist Dr. Shereene Idrissthe founder of the skin care label Pillow talkDerm.

She often visits her social media pages to explain more about skin health and share her in-depth tips.

In a recent excerptposted this week, Dr. Idriss shares three tips that she believes everyone should use in their facial cleansing routine to ensure clear, flawless skin.

Clear skin through cleansing, according to Dr. Idriss

  • Don’t skip washing your face at night
  • Don’t skimp on washing your face
  • Don’t wash your face in the morning

“Number one, don’t skip washing your face at night,” Dr. Idriss began. “Because you’ve got all this shit on your face, and you’ve been walking around all day and your face got hit.”

“If you don’t treat your face with the love and respect it deserves, no one will,” she continued, likening neglecting skin care to buying an Aston Martin and not taking it to a service.

“That’s literally what you’re doing by not washing your face at night,” the board-certified dermatologist warned.

Next on the list of tips was to make sure you actually wash your face properly at night.

“Number two, if you’re going to take the time and make the effort to actually wash your face at night, do it right,” Dr. advised. Idriss. “Don’t just skimp on the way you do it.”

“If you wear makeup and you know you have a cleanser that completely removes your makeup, then that’s fine, but chances are you haven’t met that cleanser yet because I still have that cleanser.” not met.’

She advised viewers to use micellar water or an oil-based makeup remover to remove makeup, followed by a cleanser.

To ensure that all of your makeup has been properly removed from your face, Dr. Idriss recommends trying something called “the white towel test.”

“After you wash, grab a clean, white towel, and if it’s clean, you know you did a good job,” she explained.

And last but not least, Dr. Idriss avoids cleansing your face in the morning when you wake up.

“Before you guys hit me up in the comments section, I’m not saying you shouldn’t clean your face with water in the morning,” the dermatologist explained.

“But you don’t need to use a cleanser in the morning after cleansing your face in the evening.”

Dr. Idriss pointed out that cleansing in the morning may be “over-stripping” your skin of its natural oils.

“There are of course exceptions to this rule, but for most people this works fine,” she said.

It’s a rule she says her patients have enjoyed.

“And many of my own patients have told me that this particular tip has been a game-changer for their skin when they skip the AM cleanser,” the dermatologist said.
