Dog owner issues urgent warning to fellow pet lovers about storing pet food in containers

A dog owner has warned others about storing pet food after finding mold in her container.

Michelle Gomez, of Atlanta, Georgia, has two puppies, a four-year-old Golden Retriever and a three-year-old Dalmatian.

She made one TikTok once she noticed mold on their food, which garnered nearly half a million views.

She started the video by saying, “I just found mold in my dog’s food and I have to show you.”

“So I know you’re not supposed to put food in a container that isn’t airtight or food safe, but I didn’t think it was that serious.

And so I know you’re probably wondering “are you stupid?” the answer is yes, i’m stupid.

She then shows the container she kept her pup’s food in, a deep white container with a flip-up lid.

She continued by saying, ‘I haven’t used this, it’s been empty for two weeks. I just bought a new bag of food and I wanted to dump it here and watch.”

Michelle then panned the camera to show a handful of small dog food nuggets with mold growing on them.

“The lighting is kind of bad here because it’s a closet, but literally mold.”

She turned to her Golden Retriever and then said, “I’ve let you down, I’m sorry. But yes, imagine if I had fed that to my dog, that could have been very bad.

“So PSA all the dog parents out there, don’t put your dog’s food in a bowl, leave it in the bag, or put it in the bowl in the bag.”

Users took to the comments to discuss what they learned about how to store their pet food.

Another said, “I worked at a vet. I learned that you should keep the food in the bag it came in. That’s the best way to keep the food fresh.’

A third wrote, “You can use any dog food container, just leave the dog food in the bag!” It helps to keep it fresh.’

A fourth commented: ‘Omg no!!! One of them contains my dog’s food.’

This comes after a dog owner in the UK shared that her pup, Cookie, was suffering from a highly contagious and deadly virus.

Amy Riley, 25, from Darwen, Lancashire, revealed that her beloved pet is seriously ill after contracting parvovirus earlier this month – and is now struggling to pay vet bills.

It is thought that the six-month-old puppy picked up the virus while walking on roads very close to home.

Amy raised the alarm last Monday when Cookie started vomiting and vets initially thought she had a stomach problem.

However, as Cookie’s condition continued to worsen, she was diagnosed with a highly contagious virus called parvovirus, which is spread through feces.
