Dramatic moment as officers wrestle 'knife man' to the ground after he threatens 'shoppers in Jewish store' in Golders Green
A MAN has been arrested after a suspected anti-Semitic knife attack on a kosher food store.
Footage shows the 34-year-old brandishing the massive blue kitchen top outside Kay's Local in Golders Green, North Londonyesterday afternoon.
Eyewitnesses said the knifeman approached the store with his weapon hidden and ordered the staff to come out and “talk about the Israelis.”Palestine conflict”.
Minutes later he pulled out the gun before being heroically repelled by store staff.
Yosef Chaim Reitman, 18, was pictured assaulting the suspect with a cart in the crazy fight.
He told The Sun: “He looked like a dodgy man, he was clearly not there to buy anything. Just to have a discussion with us.
“When my father asked him to leave, he pushed him – then I stepped in and he grabbed my neck so I tried to kick him to the ground.
“Suddenly he pulled a knife and we started to subdue him.”
Footage shows the frenzied panic as store staff desperately try to subdue the knifeman, who is wearing a gray hoodie and black sweatpants.
Shelf stacker Bruno Teixeira was one of the employees who took action: he grabbed a broom and took on the attacker.
The Portuguese father of one told the Jewish Chronicle: “It's not fair that he had a knife and other people had nothing.
“Then I saw the broom…I had to use it.”
Yosef, who works at the store, can be seen assaulting him with a nearby cart before the suspect flees.
He ran to a shared house down the street before emerging minutes later in traditional Islamic garb to disguise himself.
By then, police and members of the Shomrim community patrol group had arrived and dramatically arrested the suspect.
A spokesperson for Shomrim said: “Around 1.27pm our officers received a call to our hotline that someone was threatening someone with a knife.
“We surrounded the address and decided not to go in, but to wait for the police to arrive.
“He changed his clothes and as soon as he left he was arrested.”
Police later used a battering ram to gain entry to the home and recover the weapon.
A Met spokesperson added: “We were called at 1.27pm on Monday 29 January to reports of a man with a knife in Hamilton Road, NW11.
“Officers responded and searched the area.
“Shortly before 1.40pm a 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, criminal damage and racially aggravated affray. He was taken into custody.
“There were no reports of injuries. A knife was found at the scene.”
National Jewish Assembly deputy leader Laurence Julius told The Sun: “Unfortunately this was an incident waiting to happen and miraculously no one was injured.
“There has been a huge increase in anti-Semitic incidents – approximately 2,093 reported by the CST from October 7 to December 19.
“The regular marches were full of chants of Intifada and Jihad – which is sedition.
“Social media spreads false news and hatred.
