Ed Sheeran surprises children in Boston youth music group

Ed Sheeran gave a surprise concert with a youth music group in Boston, Massachusetts, on Sunday.

The 32-year-old pop star headed to the town’s Tobin Community Center to take the kids onstage for their show ahead of his concert at Foxborough’s Gillette Stadium later that night.

Ed shared a video of the community center performance on his Instagram page, writing, “Morning off in Boston so I went to surprise this kids music group was so much fun.

‘To the second stadium show, see you later x.’

In the clip he sang his songs The Hills of Aberfeldy and Eyes Closed, both from his latest album Subtract, which was released in May of this year.

He was heard to say to the youngsters, ‘This is so good boys, so good. You are fantastic.

“Thanks for letting me play with you. I heard you like ‘Eyes Closed.’

The kids had already practiced Eyes Closed so they could play along with the pop star.

Ed added: ‘I played the cello when I was a kid, this reminds me of the things I used to play.’

One of the children was seen in a clip talking about the experience, holding up an autographed guitar he had received from the singer.

The boy said, ‘I played with Ed Sheeran, that was really cool. I had a lot of fun. And he gave me a really cool guitar and he signed it.’

Ed was also seen chatting to the young musicians and posing for photos with them.

He also offered to buy them all the tickets for his performance at the stadium, telling them, “If you all want tickets to tonight’s show, you can all have tickets to tonight’s show.”

“We will hook you and your families up. yes everyone down!’

He captioned his video by saying, “That was so much fun. I love playing with kids who are inspired by music for the first time, it’s great.

“On to the second Gillette show and I’ll see you there.”

It comes after Ed recently set an attendance record at MetLife Stadium with nearly 90,000 fans at last Sunday night’s concert.

The British pop star played two nights at the East Rutherford, New Jersey venue. home of NFL’s New York Jets and New York Giants, on June 10 and 11.

This has been confirmed by a MetLife representative People that Sheeran played in front of 89,106 on Sunday, knocking out U2 as recorder holder after winning 88,491 fans on their 360° Tour in 2011.

In recognition of the record-breaking performance, the stadium displayed a message on screens right after the show that read “Congratulations, Ed Sheeran.”

In total, the singer’s two MetLife shows drew 173,390 fans at the venue, resulting in a whopping $18 million box office.

“Today played my biggest US show ever and broke the ticketing record at MetLife,” the star shared on Instagram right after the June 11 performance.

“I really don’t take this for granted, my dad told me if you can make it in New York you can make it anywhere, and today I really thought back on playing my first show at Mercury Lounge in 2012 for 130 people. It feels like a dream today. I love you all.’

The British musician’s ongoing +–=÷× Tour began on April 23, 2022 in Dublin, Ireland, and lasted through September last year.

The tour will shift to New Zealand and Australia and will resume in 2023 with the second leg from February 2 to March 12.

Leg number three saw Sheeran make his way to North America for a series of stadium shows starting with New Orleans on April 29.

That date would lead to the record-breaking concerts at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

He will also make stops in Detroit, Nashville, Chicago, Seattle, among others, before wrapping up the tour at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California on September 23.

While he’s mainly focused on stadiums on the tour, Sheeran has also made it a point to take the stage at smaller venues to mix it up with intimate performances.
