The feature wasn’t completely gone, although it had been largely retired since about 2014.

The Poke button has been hiding deep in your Facebook settings all this time.

But its popularity has recently skyrocketed again after web developers made the button more visible.

Thanks to a small design tweak, the number of Pokes exchanged on the platform has increased thirteen times, according to Facebook.

And it has piqued the interest of Gen Z and Millennial users ages 18 to 29, who made up about half of Pokes in recent weeks.

“Wait, I thought they removed ‘poke’ years ago. How do you poke someone?’ one Facebook user wrote on Wires.

Another added: “I remember when FB had that ‘POKE’ button, I just found it and my last Pokes were in 2014. Glad it’s back.”

In 2017, there was a small attempt to bring back the Poke by putting it on profile pages, but the trend didn’t catch on again.

It was a fad in the early days of Facebook, but its popularity faded in the 2010s.

What’s the point of poking?

Facebook never defined what the idea behind poking was, but users made up their own interpretations.

For many, it was the original button to jump into someone’s DMs.

For others it was a funny way to annoy someone.

In response to the Poke revival, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg joked on Threads, saying, “Nature is healing.”

Zuckerberg then revealed who his very first Poke was, confirming to millions of people that their flirtatious attempts at poking weren’t entirely in vain.

“I poked Priscilla and now we’re married.”

How do I poke someone on Facebook?

You can see and send Pokes on Facebook via your por page.

Or you can search for a friend and there will be a Poke button to the right of their name.

When you poke someone, he or she will receive a notification.

It’s a quirky way to remind someone you’re online, or even to make a new connection.

If you don’t want someone to poke you, you can block him/her.
