FACEBOOK users are left baffled after being logged out of their accounts with nothing but a ‘session expired’ message.

And they can no longer log in.

Meta says she is investigating the problem

What is ‘session expired’ on Facebook?

The message appeared randomly to most users on Tuesday afternoon during a major outage that also affected Facebook Messenger and Instagram.

When a session ends, it normally means that the connection between a person and a website has been lost.

This is sometimes done for security reasons, a bit like when your laptop locks up when you haven’t used it for an extended period of time.

But because this happened to all Facebook users at the same time and they can no longer log in, there appears to be a much broader problem with Meta’s account system.

Why can’t my Facebook log in?

When people try to regain access, another message appears telling users that they “can’t log in”

An unexpected error has occurred, it says.

“Try logging in again.”

However, when you try to log in again, you still can’t access Facebook anymore.

It is not yet clear why this happens, but you are not alone.

I’m convinced Facebook is listening to us after my daughter noticed something strange on her feed, one user claims

Has my Facebook been hacked?

There is no indication that the current outage means you have been hacked.

Hundreds of thousands of people around the world have reported the same problem and it is part of a major outage.

Facebook owner Meta said it was suffering “major disruptions”.

“We are aware of an issue affecting Facebook Login,” the company said.

“Our technical teams are actively working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”
