Farmers' Protest 2024: The Internet Suspension Order has been issued under Section 5 of the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885 and Rule 2 of the Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules 2017.

Farmers' protest 2024: In a step towards maintaining peace in the region amid the ongoing farmers' protest, the Haryana government has extended the ban on mobile internet and bulk SMS services in seven districts till Wednesday. The affected districts are Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Jind, Hisar, Fatehabad and Sirsa. The government had previously extended the mobile internet suspension on February 13, 15, 17 and 19.

In the order, Haryana Additional Chief Secretary TVSN Prasad said, “After assessing the prevailing law and order situation in the state, conditions remain critical and tense in Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Jind, Hisar, Fatehabad and Sirsa districts. ”

“There is a clear potential for disruption of public amenities, damage to public property and facilities and disruption of law and order in the above-mentioned districts due to misuse of internet services through the spread of inflammatory material and false rumours. said Prasad. The order has been issued under Section 5 of the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885 and Rule 2 of the Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules 2017.

All Dongle services suspended

According to the order, the suspension of mobile internet services, bulk SMS (excluding banking and mobile top-ups) and all dongle services offered on mobile networks, except voice calling, has been extended until February 21 in the seven-district jurisdiction.

The order has been extended to prevent disruption of peace and public order and will be in force until February 21.

Protesting farmers stayed at Shambhu and Khanauri points on Punjab's border with Haryana after their 'Delhi Chalo' march to pressure the Center for various demands, including a legal guarantee of minimum support price (MSP) for crops, was stopped by security forces. , which led to clashes last week.

Farmer leaders who participated in the agitation on Monday rejected the Centre's proposal to purchase pulses, maize and cotton at MSP for five years by government agencies. They said this was not in the interest of farmers and announced that they would march on the national capital on Wednesday.

The fourth round of talks fails

In the fourth round of talks with farmer leaders, a panel of three Union ministers on Sunday proposed procurement of pulses, maize and cotton crops by government agencies at minimum support prices (MSP) for five years after an agreement was struck with farmers.

Besides a legal guarantee of MSP, the farmers are demanding implementation of Swaminathan Commission recommendations, pension for farmers and farm laborers, waiver of farm debts, no increase in electricity tariff, withdrawal of police cases, “justice” for the victims of the disaster of 2021. Lakhimpur Kheri violence, restoration of the Land Acquisition Act, 2013, and compensation for the families of the farmers killed during an earlier unrest in 2020-2021.
