A GARDENING expert has shared her recipe for homemade plant food.

An unconventional ingredient in her three-step recipe was the key to extending the life of her flowers.

The expert (@fivefootfeminine) shared the trick with more than 320,000 TikTok followers.

“Did you know that adding bleach to your flower water will make them last longer?” she said.

“I know, it seems a little scary, but I promise it works.”

She explained that just the tiniest dash of bleach combined with a second ingredient worked wonders.

“Just add a little bit to keep the water germ-free, plus some sugar to keep the flowers nourished,” she said.

She diluted 1/4 teaspoon of bleach in 1/3 gallon of water and added a tablespoon of sugar.

“Try this with your Valentine's Day roses, I promise they will last ten times longer.”

Her viewers shared their testimonials about her hack in the comments.

“I've been doing that for years and it works great,” said one commenter.
