Fulham join Sammy Szmodic’s race as they battle London rivals for Blackburn star

FULHAM have joined the Sammie Szmodics fan club as the 28-year-old Blackburn hitman continues to score.

Last week, scout Brian Talbot saw that Szmodics turned 21 this season.

Brentford are also interested and Rovers hope to stay in the Championship and collect a huge fee when clubs come calling, but relegation could change the picture.

John Eustace’s side are currently 17th in the second tier with eight games remaining.

Saturday’s goalless draw at Middlesbrough leaves Blackburn three points above the drop zone.

Despite not finding the target this weekend, Szmodics remains at the top of the scoring list.

The 28-year-old has scored 21 goals in 36 league games and three assists this season.

He also scored six goals in three FA Cup games for Blackburn as they reached the fifth round of the competition.

Fulham’s interest comes amid a revival in the form of striker Rodrigo Muniz.

The Brazilian has scored seven goals in his last seven Premier League matches after his brace against Tottenham on Saturday.

Szmodics’ form also saw him earn a first call-up to the Republic of Ireland for their upcoming friendlies.

Interim boss John O’Shea has brought in Szmodics for this month’s matches against Belgium and Switzerland.

The former Peterborough man is also eligible to play for Hungary through his grandfather.
