Galaxy Truffles were a highlight of the Celebrations boxes before they were discontinued

What were Galaxy Truffles?

Galaxy Truffles were individually wrapped chocolates that were part of Celebrations boxes.

They were not available to purchase yourself.

Each candy had a velvety chocolate center with a hard but delicious exterior.

They were part of Celebrations from the brand’s launch in 1997 until they were discontinued and replaced in the boxes with another candy.

The original Celebrations boxes include mini versions of Mars Bar, Bounty, Snickers, Galaxy, Galaxy Caramel, Maltesers Teaser, Milky Way, Topic and Galaxy Truffle.

Why and when were Galaxy Truffles discontinued?

Galaxy Truffles were discontinued in 2011.

Confectionery bosses Mars, owner of brands such as Galaxy and Milkyway, exchanged the truffles for Twixes.

Subjects were also removed from Celebrations boxes in 2006 and have since been completely discontinued.

There have been no other major changes to the Celebrations collection since its launch.

Chocolate lovers started an online petition in 2018 demanding that Mars reverse its decision to remove the Galaxy Truffles.

The petition was founded by Sean Duggan and hoped to gain the support of 10,000 people in total.

By 2024, the campaign had only collected just over 1,500 signatures.

Outraged by the decision to replace Galaxy Truffles with Twixes, Sean wrote in the petition’s description: “Let’s bring back the Truffle and let the company know that we don’t want something that was so popular to be replaced by something so mediocre.

“Let’s not only show the sadness that something so wonderful is taken away, but also show that this should never happen again!”

How can I still get Galaxy Truffles?

In 2019, it emerged that Mars had listened to the demands of those who wanted to see Galaxy Truffles back on shelves.

The company announced that Galaxy Truffles would become available in Tesco stores, in-store and online, with no specific end date.

These Galaxy Truffles are not part of the Celebrations boxes, but come in their own box and cost £5 for 190g (from March 2024).

On their return, Sarah Mellor, Galaxy Brand Director, said: “We are extremely excited to launch Galaxy Truffles in the UK this year and enter the year-round gifting market for the first time as a brand.

“For so many, Galaxy Truffles have been part of a beloved holiday tradition and we are thrilled to meet the undeniable demand by reinventing this favorite, now available all year round, as the perfect gift to bring joy to the next generation of Galaxy truffles. fans.”

Some customers have complained online that the new version of Galaxy Truffles is not as good as the original.

They are described by Tesco as “a Galaxy milk chocolate shell” filled with an “intense chocolatey truffle center” so they can still satisfy those who missed their presence in Celebrations.

Additionally, in March 2024, McDonald’s revealed that one of their new desserts would contain Galaxy truffles – albeit in small pieces.

The fast food giant launched six items in time for Easter, including the Truffle Bunny McFlurry.

The dessert combines soft ice cream with pieces of Galaxy truffle, rabbit ears and white and dark chocolate drops.

It is then topped with Galaxy chocolate sauce.

The Truffle Bunny McFlurry, along with the other Easter items, will be available on McDonald’s menus in the UK and Ireland from March 13.
