Large discounter with 500 branches confirms that the store will close permanently

SHOPPERS are devastated after a much-loved discount store announced its closure, leaving them likening their home to a “ghost town”.

The retailer has more than 500 locations and has been a fixture in the community for years.

Savers in Haverfordwest, Wales, revealed the sad news yesterday and locals flocked to social media to share their grief.

One person wrote: “What a shame for the city,” while another agreed: “What a shame.”

A third added: “It was like a ghost town when we went on holiday about two years ago. I can’t imagine what it’s like now.”

“Was in savers yesterday, another one Nice store falls into the dust,” said a fourth.

A spokesperson for the retail giant said it was hoped staff from the Haverfordwest store could take up positions at other local Savers stores.

“We can confirm that our Savers Haverfordwest store will close over the summer months,” the spokesperson said.

“Where possible, we want to offer positions to employees of local stores.

“Our customers can also shop our great offers online at Savers.co.uk, locally at Tenby or in one of our 500 stores nationwide.”

It comes as a major department store chain with 200 stores is about to close another branch.

The Original Factory Shop will down the shutters of its Milford store in Surrey after several closures last year.

The discounter sells a range of bargains, from homeware to stationery.

It has been in business since 1969 and has around 190 stores in the UK.

Now it has been revealed that The Original Factory Shop will close its Charles Street store after 13 years in what will be another blow to the high street.

The branch first opened in Milford Haven in June 2010 – in the building originally occupied by Woolworths.
