Glenn Maxwell is set to miss the Australia vs England ODI World Cup 2023 tie due to injury

New Delhi: Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is likely to miss the ODI World Cup match against England to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday. The 35-year-old all-rounder injured himself on Monday.

The Australian all-rounder will be subject to concussion protocols for six to eight days, ESPNCricinfo reported.

“Maxwell was holding a golf cart on the way back from the clubhouse to the team bus when he lost his grip. He is expected to be on concussion management for six to eight days,” ESPN reported.

With Maxwell absent, there is a chance that Marcus Stoinis or Cameron Green will feature and Marnus Labuschagne has secured his place in the Playing XI.

In the recent match against Netherlands, Maxwell smashed a 40-ball century and also bowled alongside Adam Zampa.

Earlier in their recent outing against New Zealand, Australia held on to register a narrow last-ball victory against Neighbors New Zealand in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. New Zealand posted an improbable 389 to win and were inspired by Rachin Ravindra’s superb century to set up a nail-biting finish in the highest scoring match in the history of ODIs.Jimmy Neesham’s extraordinary 58 from 39 balls took them to the cusp of an extraordinary comeback victory, after which a brilliant run-out saw Neesham from the penultimate removed ball of the innings.

With six required on the last ball, Mitchell Starc held his nerve to deny No. 11 Lockie Ferguson as the Black Caps finished on 383/9 and Australia won a nail-biter by just five runs.

Runs flowing like water in a river during the monsoon, Australia rode on a brilliant opening partnership in an unusual first innings as they posted 388 on the picturesque ground in the Himalayan foothills.

A remarkable opening partnership between David Warner (81 off 65) and the returning Travis Head (109 off 67) gave Pat Cummins’ side a thrilling start.

Head’s maiden appearance at the tournament was memorable as he smashed seventeen boundaries, including seven maximums, in his brilliant century.

Although the opening pair scored 175 in just 19 overs, Australia struggled to build on the platform during the middle overs.

Mitchell Marsh (36 off 51 and Marnus Labuschagne (18 off 26) found themselves particularly stuck, with Glenn Phillips bowling superbly for 3-37 from ten overs, and standing up for his team at just the right time when Lockie Ferguson was forced out with an injury early in his period.

Glenn Maxwell (41 off 24), Josh Inglis (38 off 28) and Pat Cummins (37 off 14) exploded through the death overs to boost Australia’s score, but their 388 could have been even higher, with New Zealand took four wickets for just 1 run in the last two overs to bowl out their neighbors for 388.
