A GRAN who won a huge jackpot and ended up with £60,000 in her bank account has opened up about her win.
Elaine Cusick69, scooped up the money through the People's Postcode Lottery and quickly flew to the other side of the world with husband Eddie.
The mother-of-two, along with 14 of her neighbors in Scotland, won a whopping £1million to share in November.
So Elaine and husband Eddie hopped on a plane and flew to Australia for two weeks – sharing more than half their winnings with the rest of their family.
She said: “It was one of Eddie's dreams to be in Sydney for the fireworks at New Year.
“We were planning on going for Christmas this year, but when we got the check right before last Christmas we said, 'Okay, let's do that.'
“We had a great vantage point. My cousin took us to a special place and we got some amazing photos. It was great, they had drones and all kinds.”
Elaine said the trip was a “once-in-a-lifetime experience” and the couple loved it.
She said the couple had been sure to take the lottery check with them to show off in photos.
The 69-year-old continued: “When we were taking pictures we could see people looking at us and saying 'What's that all about?'”
Elaine and her postcode in Old Kilpatrick, West Dunbartonshire won the £66,666 Millionaire Street Prize in November.
She also shared her winnings with her family, giving each of her daughters £10,000 and her grandchildren £5,000.
The grandmother said she plans to continue playing the lottery, but not for greedy reasons.
Elaine said: “This is something we could never do again.
“I'm going to keep playing. It only costs £12 a month. That only costs three cups of coffee. It's just amazing to think it's helping charities.
“Even though I won, I won't stop – because of the good causes.”
She said she was “totally shocked” by the first win, adding tearfully: “Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would have won that amount of money.
“I feel myself bursting into tears again. It was just great.
“I hope to buy a car for myself in the not too distant future. The most important thing is that we can support the children.”
On her win, Elaine said: “I can give the whole family a wonderful Christmas.
“If I could, I would celebrate Christmas all year round. But this year it's going to be great.
“During the day Covid, the first time we were able to get together was in July 2021, and I had Christmas in the garden. I've done it all.
“The whole family calls me Mrs. Christmas.”
How the People's Postcode Lottery works
The People's Postcode Lottery costs £12 a month to play and there are guaranteed winners every day.
People play with their chosen zip code and are automatically entered into all draws. At least 33% of each ticket goes to a good cause.
Every Saturday, £1 million will be shared by one postcode as part of the lottery's Millionaire Street prize.
People's Postcode Lottery players have raised more than £1.2 billion for thousands of charities and local charities.
