Grandpa breaks his arm after faceplanting during the adult race on granddaughter’s sports day

A kind-hearted grandpa has suffered facial injuries and a broken arm after falling on his granddaughter’s sports day.

James Kewley, 46, from Malton, North Yorkshire, vowed to run the race after his five-year-old granddaughter, Ella, begged him to take part on June 16.

The speedy toddler took first place in all of her races that day, as did her mother, Georgia Kewley, 25 — and grandfather James hoped to make it a three-way win for the family.

James, who runs a construction company, whizzed ahead before unluckily tripping over a bump in the grass, which left him with a black eye and a broken arm ‘twice his size’.

Far from a sore loser, James says the ordeal was “all in a good mood” after he patched up.

He explained, “The grass was so dry. I must have hit a bump and crushed my arm.

“It was twice as big. It was really swollen. A bone was sticking out.

“They told me it looks like a breakup. But it will recover.

‘I also have a black eye. It’s all in a good mood’.

A brief visit to Malton Community Hospital in North Yorkshire revealed he had likely suffered a fracture.

He has since returned to work and will have to go back in for an X-ray to confirm the injury.

Georgia, a worker, said she was in shock when her father fell at the final hurdle of the race.

She added, “Ella begged him. She kept saying, “Can you do it for me grandpa?”

“When he fell, I was shocked. All his weight went on his arm.

“When he sat up, his arm was all twisted. But he’s okay and sees the funny side.

“At least he got in somewhere.”

The proud grandfather says he is in no hurry to participate in next year’s sports day, certainly not without a little practice.

He said, “Ella had her head in her hands when I fell.

“I’m not sure I’ll do it next year. Unless I’ve had a little training’.

In another sports day mishap, a hilarious video shows a mom planting her face during the parents’ race on her daughter’s school sports day — even making the crowd think.

Katie Hannaford, 36, was redfaced after her eight-year-old convinced her to go running last week.

Funny footage shows the mother from Basildon, Essex, queuing in the third lane from the left.

The race then started and Katie, wearing a blue dress, fell backwards before falling to the ground.

Unfortunately, her dress came over her head, revealing her underwear for all of the audience.

Fortunately, Katie, who owns a home goods business, saw the funny side and described her journey as “hilarious.”
