Anything can happen in New York City — even a surprise serenade from punk rockers Green Day during an after-work drive.

During the Thursday January 18 episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy FallonGreen Day members Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt And Tre Cool connected host Jimmy Fallon to go shopping at the 47-50th Street subway station, near Rockefeller Plaza. The four were all dressed up for the occasion: Armstrong, 51, wore a blonde wig and matching mustache; Dirnt, 51, wore a long brunette wig and sunglasses, making him look like he was walking out of Laurel Canyon in the 1970s; Cool, 51, wore glasses and a beatnik goatee; and Fallon, 49, looked like a hippie with a beard and wig.

The quartet started the set with “Feel Like Making Love” by Bad Company as people gathered to watch. But the ruse was soon over: all four men left their costumes behind before heading into Green Day's 'Basket Case'. In addition to the cover of Kiss' “Rock and Roll All Nite,” the band played “Look Ma, No Brains!” and “Dilemma” from their new album, Saviorsand closed the set with a performance of their hit “American Idiot.”

During the final song, both Armstrong and the assembled crowd sang the updated lyrics – swapping “Redneck agenda” for “MAGA Agenda” – just as Green Day did during their performance on Rocking New Year's Eve by Dick Clark last month.
