Becky Chorlton, 25, and Steff Roberts, 27, moved into their four-bedroom detached house in Lymm, Cheshire, in October last year.

The couple rent the £350,000 property, so they decided to save money by buying all their furniture second-hand.

Since moving in, they've managed to completely decorate the living room, kitchen, playroom, guest room and office with items from Facebook Marketplace.

And it only cost them £500 in total, meaning they saved a whopping £6,000.

Becky, who runs a vintage shop called Becky's Bazaar, said: “I wanted to get almost everything from Facebook Marketplace.

'I did think we would have had to buy some essential items brand new, but we are lucky that we could have borrowed things from my mum and dad.

“My whole working life has been about second-hand shopping and stuff like that, so I've spent all my time looking at Facebook.

“My boyfriend was at work and I asked him to pick up stuff on the way home.

“I really wanted to get the majority of things from Facebook Marketplace.”

The biggest bargain Becky found on Facebook was a seven-foot-long farmhouse-style table with eight chairs and a bench.

The table retails brand new for around £1,000 to £1,500, but she managed to grab it from Facebook for just £150.

Becky said: 'The biggest buy was the dining table, we have lamps hanging from the ceiling and because we are renting we can't move them.

“If we hadn't gotten a table of a certain length, people would have hit their heads on the lamps.

“We thought finding a two-metre long farmhouse style table would be ridiculously expensive and difficult to find.

“We spent the longest time looking for a table; we didn't have anything to eat for about two weeks.

“But it was worth the wait because we ended up finding the most perfect table about three hours away, but it cost £150 including all the chairs and a sofa.

“It's not super cheap, but if you buy it brand new it will cost around £1,000 to £1,500.

“I absolutely love it, I will keep it for life.”

Becky also wanted to buy a 'Mr Maria

She intended to buy it in the store but then found one for £30 on Facebook and now it's her 'favorite thing ever' because of how cheap it was.

Becky said: “We have a smiley lamp for the house – I've been talking about it for ages.

“Me and my mum went to the shop where they sell it and I was literally two seconds away from buying a brand new one, which cost £130.

“It was just a bit too much for me to pay because I wasn't sure if I would get any use out of it.

“I kept looking for one on Facebook Marketplace every day, but they were even being sold second hand for around £80.

“One day I found it for £30 and I messaged the woman and said, 'Here I can, I can come and collect it now'.

“It's honestly my favorite thing ever, it makes me so happy when I look at it because I know I got it for a bargain.

“We saved £100 on that lamp alone.”

Steff and Becky plan to buy a house in the future together, but Becky says she will continue to buy second-hand furniture.

She said: “I will 100 percent do this again.

“If we move, I might even sell some pieces, like the sofa, because it's not as comfortable as we wanted.

“I would then search Facebook for another one.

“The furniture we have now may not suit the space and we may want to change it up a bit.”

Becky says she would recommend anyone buy things on Facebook Marketplace, but has advised people to “check every day” if they want a particular item.

She also advises people to rent a van, as most sellers on the platform “want to sell something that day.”

Becky, who has almost 200,000 followers on TikTok, said: “I would tell people to check Facebook every day and use specific keywords if they are looking for something.

“I would also say, if you're moving in a week or two weeks and you don't have a van, rent a van for two weeks.

“Then you have the flexibility to pick something up.

“Luckily my friend had a van, but if I knew that, we would have had a hard time because people wanted to get rid of stuff that day.

“You'll probably miss things.

“I know it costs money to buy a van, but you'll probably save money if you're willing to buy all the furniture in those few weeks.”
