MacKenzie Scott’s charitable donations have been revealed

BILLIONAIRE philanthropist MacKenzie Scott has made several donations to various charities over the years.

Scott is the ex-wife of former Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and is ranked fifth on Forbes 2022 list of biggest lifetime givers.

How much money has MacKenzie Scott donated to charity?

In June 2021, MacKenzie Scott said she had identified 286 high-impact, underfunded organizations in a self-published article on Medium.

Scott donated more than $2.7 billion in grants that year to organizations that advance the arts, higher education and ending discrimination.

She has contributed to more than 780 organizations, bringing her total donations to $16.5 billion as of March 2024. Forbes.

Her previous donation to Habitat for Humanity International and 84 of its US subsidiaries of $436 million was reported by The Associated Press.

Jonathan Reckford, CEO of Habitat for Humanity International, told the newspaper: “We couldn’t be happier to receive the gift at a time when the state of housing affordability is in some ways the worst it has been in modern times been.”

In October 2022, Scott continued her giving campaign by giving the Girl Scouts of the USA and 29 of its local affiliates $84.5 million.

“Her support of our organization honestly means as much as the donation,” said Sofia Chang, CEO of GSUSA, via NPR.

The donation is reportedly the largest individual donation the organization has ever seen.

In 2023, she continued her giving, donating $2.1 billion to 360 organizations that she says “could use more allies” in her Yield Giving database.

In March 2024, Scott announced she was donating $640 million to 361 nonprofits.

More than 6,000 nonprofits responded to an open call when applications for the grant opened.

Emmy Ritter, executive director of Raphael House Portland, told NBC affiliate KGW, “We were overjoyed and amazed to have been awarded the Mackenzie Scott Yield Giving open call funding.”

“This opportunity gives us the chance to really stand on our feet.”

The domestic violence nonprofit originally applied for a $1 million grant, but received $2 million instead.

The couple settled their divorce on April 4, 2021, with Scott retaining a four percent stake of $36 billion in Amazon.

Scott tied the knot with Dan Jewett, a high school science teacher from Washington, two years after her divorce from Bezos.

The divorce was quietly resolved out of court and both parties signed a separation agreement.

It is unclear why Scott filed for divorce or what the details of the separation agreement were.
